To kick things off why not start with a classic artist. King of the Steel Guitar have a look at George Thorogood. Rock n Roll Christmas, by George Thorogood and The Destroyers, brings back the good old 80's music. Rock n Roll Christmas rocks outs to George's Steel guitar with the tenor sax in the background jammin' along with him. This song may be old but it still has the same kick it did 20 years ago.
The holidays are all about fun right? Every good CD has to have that one song to keep everyone laughing and this is that song! Heavy Metal Christmas, by Twisted Sister. A take on 12 Days of Christmas, this song takes a comical side to the Christmas song and if you know anything about Twisted Sister's style of playing and well all the music in the 80's - 90's, you'll have a good laugh during this song. Especially if you are an Ozzy fan, and I'll leave it at that! One more song you should see from Twisted Sister is "Oh Come All Ye Faithful." Watch the video for that because it shows Twisted Sister is just as crazy as they've always been and gives one heck of a laugh to go with it.
Now what would a Rock n Roll Holiday CD be without Ozzy Osbourne!? Just when you thought Ozzy has done it all, he unleashes a Christmas song with Jessica Simpson! Winter Wonderland, by Jessica Simpson and Ozzy Osbourne. At a random point in the song Sharon Osbourne makes her appearance and Ozzy's reaction set the deal to add this song to the list.
As with all the laughs a good CD needs, some people need a song to relax to, and this song will give a nice break to the heavy guitars. Joy to the World, by Mannheim Steamroller. No other way to put it, this song captures all relaxation music can offer while maintaining interest levels in the audience. An orchestral type band that uses various instruments such as timpani and keyboard, and throws in the electric violin too. The band is very old but I feel they belong here because they set the stage for bands like the Trans Siberian Orchestra, which you will discover later.
Now that we got the slow song out of the way, lets get the action back up and running with Santa Claus Is Back In Town, by Tim Ripper Owens, Steve Morse, Juan Garcia, Marco Mendoza, and Vinnie Appice. Each of these guys are from different bands and brought together for one purpose, to deliver one amazing Christmas song to rock out to. They do one heck of a job and pull it off nicely.
To get back in the fast lane try your ears at "Run Rudolph Run," sung by Lemmy Kilmister, Billy F. Gibbons, and Dave Grohl. This song is good all around from riffs to vocals and gives a nice kick to the typical Christmas song.
Every CD can be argued to have very similar tracks, so why not switch it up a bit and throw some good old fashioned punk rock in here too? And who better to crash your X-mas party than The Ramones, singin' Merry Christmas Baby (I Don't Want To Fight Tonight).
Since we're kickin' some punk around in here too lets have you get Oi To The World, by The Vandals. The Vandals are epic in their punk sound and anyone who appreciates The Clash, The Ramones, The Misfits, would agree.
If you thought the list couldn't get any better wait till you get a load of this. Twelve Days of Christmas, by Gary Hoey. Gary Hoey puts an insane twist to your every day Christmas songs with his very addicting guitar riffs and soloing. Gary Hoey has a lot of Christmas songs and has two albums dedicated to the Christmas spirit. "Ho Ho Hoey" and "Ho Ho Hoey II." The song Twelve Days Of Christmas keeps the melody of the original song, but Hoey gives the song a whole new rhythm makeover and throws in some dual guitar melodies too.
You've made it this far, now the moment you've been waiting for, the number one song to perfect your CD. Carol of the Bells, by Trans Siberian Orchestra. If you have not heard of them, that ends now! The Trans Siberian Orchestra is a very unique band that comes to the United States once a year to play. The band consists of numerous string instruments along with an army of guitars, drums, and bass. There are numerous vocalists such as Steve Broderick, and Christie George who each have very talented voices. The song itself is a work of art and takes your very common version to Carol of the Bells that you all know, and gives it a 'Hard Rock' twist which makes the song sound amazing. The string instruments keep the rhythm and blend incredibly with the guitars, while the guitars soar in melodic solos. Of all songs, I recommend this one personally as by far the best.
