Whether a student is moving home from college or newly married couples embark on a new adventure by closing on their very first home, June marks the start of the 'Moving Season'. There are many things one should do before moving.

Plan. If hiring help, do not wait until the last minute to get quotes on your move. This is a frustrating experience in itself, but without planning you could make it worse. Go to www.google.com and start searching qualified movers in your area. Get price quotes emailed to you so you can compare and contrast different companies.

Clean out your current home. Throw away old and unused items. This will help you start fresh when you begin the next chapter of your life in a new environment. Have a yard sale and make extra money that will go towards your moving expenses.

Research your new surroundings so you are aware of where you will be living. You may even want to meet some neighbors and introduce yourself so you feel comfortable when you settle in.

Money. Make sure your savings account has enough to cover any down payments or closing costs. Many people do not take into consideration the amount of money that is involved in moving.

Go to the post office and complete a change of address form. Your mail will be forwarded from your old address to the new one for at least 3 months don't worry. Make it fun and order "We've Moved" address labels. A great online store is www.mileskimball.com.

If hiring a mover, the biggest cost saving tip is to pre-pack your boxes before they arrive. Not only will this cut down on the time it takes (this helps if the movers charge by the hour) but it ensures your personal belongings are packed the way you want them to be.

If you have kids, be sure to include them in all of the planning and packing. This will help them ease into a new lifestyle, while teaching them that teamwork proves great results. You will not only get family time in, but they can help with the workload.

Get organized. Make a checklist and purchase all the necessary moving supplies. Standard moving supplies include: tape, scissors, boxes, blankets/pads, bubble wrap, and storage bins. The last thing you want to be doing on move-in day is going to the store.

Keep your stress levels at a minimum by taking walks and remaining calm. Moving is known to create stress, but only if you let it!

This is a new adventure, have fun! Gather up the happy memories created in your current home and keep them with you forever. You are going down another path of life and the light is definitely shining at the other end!
