10 Things Parents Should Consider When Taking Their Infant to Disneyland

Janet Cey
Disneyland is a great place for kids, and families. However, there can sometimes be more negatives than positives if you bring an infant to Disneyland. If you do bring an infant into Disneyland they do usually get in free, so that is a positive reason. However, here are 10 things parents should consider if they want to bring their baby or young infant to Disneyland.

#10 Will you get your money's worth?

When a family takes an infant to Disneyland, they should think about the cost, and if the trip would be worth it. Families with old kids may think it will be worth it since the other kids would be able to enjoy the rides. Families with just the one infant should really think about how expensive everything would be including hotel or travel costs. They should also weigh the cons and pros and think about the limitations that may occur because they have a young infant with them.

#9 You're infant may not be able to go on 3/4 of the rides

Disneyland has a lot of ride height requirements, and may not let an infant on more than half the rides. Your family may have to make a plan for ride arrangements. Sometimes one parent would have to watch the infant while the other one goes on the rides with the other kids. If you are a couple with an infant, you can take turns watching the baby while one of you goes on a ride. Disneyland has lots of single rider lines where if you are alone you can get on the ride faster.

If you are a couple that wants to stay together with the infant some rides in Fantasy Land allows you to hold the baby while on the ride. There are also a lot of none ride activities for your family and infant to do. For instance, you can watch the different shows and parades, and take pictures with characters.

I would not recommend watching the fireworks since the infant may get scared by the noise.

#8 The weather conditions at Disneyland may not always be the best for an Infant

Consider the weather conditions when taking your infant to Disneyland. Sometimes families and parents get so excited about going they forget to check the weather conditions. I would not recommend taking an infant to Disneyland on a rainy, windy, or hot day. When you are at Disneyland, you mostly stay outside. For a normal sized adult or child a rainy or hot day can be intense, can you imagine what its toll can be on a baby. If it's a hot day I recommend keeping the infant in the shade or inside at Disneyland at much as possible. This will help keep the infant from getting sun burned or dehydrated. For rainy days, I would suggest either not taking the infant or leaving early so they don't get sick.

#7 Taking turns watching the infant

Remember when you bring your infant, someone has to watch them. Since there are so many people at Disneyland I recommend making sure you have a stroller and a adult watching the infant. I would not leave the infant with a child, or young brother or sister since those kids would need supervision as well.

#6 Will the infant enjoy Disneyland?

There are many discussions about where an infant will know or enjoy themselves at Disneyland. Since the infant is very young they may not remember going to Disneyland. However, they may still enjoy the sounds, colors and movements they see.

#5 Long waits in many different kinds of lines

Remember Disneyland is full of lines, and I'm not just talking about rides. There are lines for almost everything. If you bring a infant you may have to wait in ride lines, store lines, food lines, and most important and may longest the restroom, and diaper changing line.

#4 Making Sure the infant is safe

Since Disneyland is crowded on a daily basis, I recommend making sure the infant is safe from crowds. If you have to hold the infant while going through large crowds remember to be aware where you are going and to keep a good distance from people while passing them. Also let them know you are holding a baby so they may give you extra elbow room to pass. A stroller would be good to have especially if you are going to be walking all day. The only downside with the stroller is the stroller parking issues and traffic.

#3 What time would be the best to go to Disneyland with a Infant?

If you really want to bring a infant to Disneyland, I suggest going on a week day instead of weekend since it will be less crowded. You may also want to choose a season link fall or spring instead of summer. Summer is when everyone is on vacation.

#2 How old should a infant be if you do take them to Disneyland

If you really want to bring an infant to Disneyland, I suggest waiting until they are almost one or at least close. I would not recommend bringing a newly born infant to Disneyland.

#1 Making memories with your infant at Disneyland

Remember the infant may not remember their first time at Disneyland so don't forget to capture the memories. Feel free to take pictures of the infant with characters, or remember to take video.

So the next time you are thinking about bringing an infant to Disneyland you may want to consider these 10 things before hand.
