Simplify Life by De-Cluttering Right Now

There is not a more direct path to a simplified life then by de-cluttering. Below we have outlined the 10 things you can get rid of right now in order to start on the path to a simplified life.

Clothes

Probably the most cluttered part of our life is the clothes closet. We all have shirts, pants and shoes that date back to last century that we need to donate to a needy chartable organization. Also look at those items that don't fit well anymore and donate them also.

Books

Another item we tend to squirrel away are books. Go through your bookshelves, basement and closets. I promise you will find books that you no longer read or have even thought about reading for the last decade. Donate them to the public library and you can go check them out if you need to read them in the future.

Furniture

Another item that we overlook a lot is furniture. Check out spare rooms, basements, garages and any rental storage unit you may have. Who knows maybe you can eliminate the rental storage and save some money as well. Try and sell the furniture first as you may have a small windfall of cash. After all a recession is going on and we all need to cut back or make extra income. If not donate to a charity and remember to keep the receipt for your taxes.

Coats

I bring coats up separately from clothes closets because we tend to store coats in a different area of the house. Do you have any coats that either don't fit or are terribly outdated? If so your local charities are dying to get their hands on them for people who don't have one. This is an area were we can make a difference in someone's life and simplify ours.

Blankets, Sheets, Towels and Washcloths

Another area is our linen closets were we store the above items. These are small overlooked necessities of daily living that in these recessionary times can be a God sent to those on the edge and a less cluttered linen closet for us.

Food Pantry Items

Another area were we can get rid of items that are cluttering our life is in the food pantry. We all have items we don't use but we also have some items that everyone needs like soups, meats, and vegetables. Donate a good box full to your relief agencies in the area, as it will make you feel good and simplify your life as well.

Stuff in Desk Drawers

I am doing this in my house now. So far I have been able to donate 6 cell phones and 2 pairs of glasses. Also I have designated a single drawer for pens and pencils. I have also gotten rid of countless files that I know longer need to make room for new ones.

Tools

This is an item that I go through every couple of years. I have tools right now that I got as presents or purchased on sale at a great price and have never used them. Craigs List is a great place to sell tools.

Garage Clutter

This is one place everyone needs to de-clutter at least once a year. Right now we have a decent amount of stuff in ours to have a full-fledged garage sale. Everything from extra golf clubs to old bikes and everything in-between can be sold, donated or trashed to make the garage a place we can walk and get to things we need to get to throughout the year.

Old CD's

Music is changing formats again and it won't be long before we play everything off our ipod or computer in a digital format. So now is a great time to sell the cd's in a garage sale or give them to a local thrift shop that sells like items.

Well there we have the 10 things we can get rid of in order to de-clutter our lives. Start today don't procrastinate in order to simplify your life.
