Emporia,Kansas is a small city of about 27,000 people. It is a great place to visit for people wanting to travel to a " non touristy" vacation spot. Emporia is located half way between Wichita and Topeka in east central Kansas. There are a lot of things to do here, 10 of which are talked about below.

David Traylor Zoo Of Emporia

This is one of the better known zoos in Kansas. It features animals of every size and shape imaginable. Best of all, it's free to the public.

Granada Theatre

Granada Theatre is the premier entertainment venue in Emporia,Kansas. It features live entertainment, and movies. It also features Spanish Revival Architecture, which has been fully restored to its original extravagance.

William Allen White House State Historic Site

The William Allen White House has had six United States Presidents among its guest list. It is also known for its Frank Lloyd Wright influence inside, and its Tudor architecture outside. It was home to both William Allen White, and his son William Lindsay.

Jones Aquatic Center

Jones Aquatic Center is the place to go if you want to swim in Emporia,Kansas. It features an Olympic-size swimming pool with kid's playground, two slides, zero depth entry, and a lazy river.

Lyon State Fishing Lake

Lyon State Fishing Lake is 20 minutes from Emporia, and one of the most visited lakes in Kansas. It features include hunting, boating, camping, swimming, fishing, and bird watching. It also includes a picnic area.

Lyon County Historical Museum

The Lyon County Historical Museum is one of the oldest museums in Kansas. It is housed in one of Emporia's two Carnegie Libraries. The museum features a military exhibit, an operating miniature railroad, and much more.
