10 Thoughts that Can Help Improve Your Life

How to Improve Your Life and the Lives of Those Around You

Sherri Thornhill
Sometimes we make mistakes. Sometimes we recognize those mistakes, but often we do not. Have you ever found yourself going in circles with the same problem, same argument with those you care about the most in your life? Maybe its stubbornness or just being caught up in a victim mentality that leads you to constant conflict with yourself and those around you. Would you change it if you could?

There are 10 thoughts that we should all try to remember, which can help us to improve our own lives and the lives of the people we connect with on a regular basis. See if any of them strike you as familiar.

It's not always about you. (Repeat this mantra in your head as often as necessary.)

Empathy does not mean telling the other person how much worse you have it or have had it. (It won't make them feel any better about their situation. Let it be about them, and be supportive.)

No matter how bad you have it, someone always has it worse than you.

Putting other people down will not raise your status. ("To speak ill of others is a dishonest way of praising ourselves." ~Will Durant.)

You're not always right. No one is right 100% of the time. It's ok to admit when you are wrong.

Treat others the way you want to be treated. If you want respect, give respect. If you want understanding, give understanding. It's contagious.

Lying does not solve problems; it creates them. ("If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything." ~Mark Twain.)

Think before you speak. "Better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

A strong person stands up for themselves. A stronger person stands up for others. ("To know what is right and not do it is the worst cowardice." ~Confucius.)

Asking for and accepting help is not a sign of weakness. It's a sign of strength.

I hope these thoughts will help you as much as they have helped and continue to help me. Most of us are simply trying to be the best people we can be, but sometimes we lose sight of who we have become. We can always do better.
