Tip #2 Check online yellow pages for smaller motels and hotels. These places are desperate to rent out their rooms. Take advantage of this and get the best rates possible. Pull out every tip you know to get the best price, the most days, the best room ... basically, you want to use the downward economy to your advantage.

Tip #3 Book your trip on weekdays. Not only can you get better rates, but you possibly can get a free day. Again, ask for every special available. It is totally ok to grill the motel for every last special rate or deal.

Tip #4 Check to see if children stay and eat free. Better yet, ask if this is available when calling. This can be a huge money saver vacation tip.
