1. Start by eating the recommended serving size on the package. See how much it is per serving. This will allow you to eat what you like, without over doing it. Fill up in between with fruits and veggies.
2. If you have a sweet tooth, buy fat free snack bars or sugarless sweets, only have one a day, take small bites and let it melt in your mouth, and make it last.
3. Eat slowly and be the last person to finish a meal. If you gobble down your small portion and have to watch others continue to eat, you'll feel cheated. Chew at least 30 times before swallowing your food, take this time to enjoy it.
4. Reduce the amount of food you cook for your family, chances are they're over eating too. Also, you might be tempted to eat the left-overs. It is best to pre-cook your family's meal for the week with the measured, average portion size and store them in your fridge for later, that way everything is pre-cooked and measured and no over-eating, just heat and serve.
5. Simple exercise is another good way to keep fit , dance around the house, go up and down the stairs, march on the spot, leg raises while sitting on the sofa and walking as often as you can.
6. If you take the kids to any of those deliciously sinful fast food or take-out places, instead of an adult meal, get a small hamburger and a large diet coke to fill you up, steal a couple a fries from the kids and again, eat slow, finish last.
7. Get rid of potato chips. Buy popcorn and pretzels. If you can't live without chips, try fat free or just a small portion. Never eat it out of the bag, because you will end up over eating, take out a small bowl and pour some in and enjoy your snack.
8. If you go out for dinner with friends or your family, order a large salad with dressing on the side, and only eat 1/3 of your meal. No doggy bags, unless there really is a doggy.
9. Search the web for leaner versions of your favorite recipes. Small changes can make a big difference. There are so many sites that can help you with a planned menu to help keep you from eating unhealthy foods.
10. Find a hobby to occupy your mind so, you're not eating out of boredom. I can't begin to stress how many of us have snacked on foods because it was just something to do. Try keeping a journal or even blogging, and before you know it, the whole day can pass before you notice that you hardly ate anything and you feel satisfied.
Remember to be patient, and don't beat yourself up if you fall off the wagon. The longer it takes to lose the weight, the better chance you have of keeping it off. Do not expect to see result overnight, the more you choose to eat healthy, the faster you will see results and feel great.
