Snoring, unfortunately is pretty common for most people. Although we tend to laugh about it, it is a serious sleeping disorder. What exactly causes a person to snore? According to Webmd.com snoring is "the physical obstruction of the flow of air through the mouth and nose". The physical obstruction could be caused by allergies, a sinus infection, poor muscle tone in the throat and tongue, and being over weight.
There are several things you can do to help alleviate snoring. One suggestion is to talk with your doctor. You need to find the root of your snoring. If it is allergies or a sinus infection he may can prescribe you an antihistamine that can help you sleep better. You may also want to try sleeping with a humidifier. Nasal sprays or nasal strips can also aid in stopping the snoring.Another tip: try elevating your head while you sleep. Some people do this to help with heartburn but it can also help alleviate snoring.
According to Webmd.com being over weight can also contribute to snoring. It can cause bulky throat tissue which causes snoring. Losing some weight may help you lose the snoring habit too.Put out the cigarette! Cigarette smoking contributes to all sorts of respiratory problems. Snoring is just one of them. Quitting smoking can not only help you quit snoring but it can increase your overall health 100%.
Along with losing weight exercising on a regular basis will greatly benefit you and can help with the snoring. It will make you healthier and improve your quality of sleep.Sometimes snoring can be caused by something more serious than what is previously mentioned. It could be sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is when you actually stop breathing for a few seconds. If this is left untreated it could contribute to other major health problems other than just snoring. If you suspect you may have sleep apnea than talk with your doctor to find out what you can do about it.
One other tip to quit snoring is something I have heard of but not very familiar with. It is dental appliances applied at night to help you stop snoring. This is another option you can discuss with your doctor.Snoring is bothersome but it doesn't have to be something you have to live with. Follow this tips and suggestions and you can get on the road to stopping your snoring today!
