If your loved ones have access to the net too, then make the most of VOIP options. Skype, Gtalk, MSN messenger and Yahoo messenger make use of VOIP technology ( Voice over internet protocol). 2. Yet another tip to lower your phone bills is to use toll-free numbers as far as possible. At times, we don't bother checking the directory to see if a toll-free number exists. Most offices and services like airlines, car rentals, Gas and electricity companies, have toll-free numbers.
3. Choose a service provider, based on the service provider of the people you call most often. If most of your friends and family have the same provider, it would be best for you to choose this provider too. The reason is pretty simple. The provider can give you an in-network plan, which is economical.
4. If you have a tendency to overuse your phone services, it is best to stick to prepaid plans. This way, you can have full control on your usage. Once your minutes are over, wait till the end of the month to top-up.
5. Cut downon silly 'Hey you! Whatz happenin?' text messages. This again will help lower your phone bills.
6. Set a maximum limit for yourself, when it comes to the number of phone calls per day. You need to decide on two things- the number of calls per day and the average length of calls. Use 'free calling periods' such as late evenings and weekends to make calls.
7. Do the same when it comes to texting. Also, use emails when you don't need to respond to a call or text message immediately. This again will help lower your phone bills.
8. Knock off all the lame services you don't use. If you have entertainment packages and you don't use them, ask your service provider to get rid of them. You can transfer your own MP3 and video files, rather than using the phone's entertainment package.
9. It is important to phone customer service, if you think that there is a discrepancy in your phone bill. There have been many occasions where phone companies have made mistakes in bills. So check your phone bills carefully every single time.

Post a CommentHere are a few tips that can help save some much needed mula! First, get rid of your monthly contract with the likes of ATT, their fees are outrageous and the two year contract really ties you down. After you're done with them, got to Target or Best Buy or any of those stores and get a prepaid phone - NET10 is actually a really good choice. With their plan you only pay 10 cents a minute or 5 cents a text which is really inexpensive. They have the best coverage and their phones are just as good as those offered by top providers. Unlike the contract guys, who have you on a tight leash, NET10 was ranked by J.D. Power as the best in customer satisfaction. Here's the caveat though, Yes, this phone plan is totally affordable and will help you save loads of money every month, but here's where tip #3 comes in - limit your talking!! If you can keep it to about 300 minutes a month, you're golden and will end up paying about $15/month. Totally doable right? You'll be amazed how much you can do w
PhoenixRox, great article. I actually wanted to augment your tips by mentioning another strategy for seriously cutting cell bills. I work in the consumer advocacy division of the Houston-based company Validas, where we electronically audit and subsequently reduce the average cell bill by 22 percent through our website, http://www.fixmycellbill.com (and I'll add that 22 percent equates to over $450 per year for the average user).
You can find out for free if fixmycellbill.com can modify your plan to better suit your individual needs by going to the website. Check out Validas in the media, most recently on Fox News at http://www.myfoxtampabay.com/dpp/consumer/conlaw/lower_cell_phone_bills_072409 .
Good luck to everyone reading on retaking control over your wireless expenses.

my bill is the same every month whether I use it or not. Then again I don't own a cell!
Great tips but have to add one more - just don't talk on the phone :) ok, on phone for work 40+ hours a week I avoid the phone like the plaque when I get home - went 4 months on the same $10 pre-paid phone card
I have a Virgin Mobile that costs me $15 every THREE MONTHS! Can't get much cheaper than that. It's only on when I am using it or I am expecting a call. My land line is $60 a month and that's unlimited long distance. People who think they need to be talking on a cell phone 24/7 deserve these atrocious phone bills. Cells are much more expensive than land lines.
I hate having another monthly bill so use a prepaid cell phone from Tracfone. Cheap but works fine...I'm not that into cell phones anyways! Good tips.
Good topic choice. :)
Good tips.
I was ripped off by AT&T, switched to Verizon and was really ripped off! Since then I just don't trust any of them and have an unlimited plan on my landline (you all remeber those right?):) I have now learned how to live without my cell, it hasn't been easy though and to be honest, I went through withdrawals for a little while. LOL Great Tips, thank you!
My family only uses cell phones by T-mobile with fave 5's because the home phone got up to over $100 for just the basic of necessities and we have 5 cells for much less.
Good helpful tips though for those in need.
