All Good Deeds Should Be Rewarded No Matter How Small

Jeanne Marie Kerns
Children loved to be praised no matter what it is they have done. It might be something small to you as an adult, but to a child it is everything. If you make it a daily habit of praising your child for at least one thing they have done that day, the rewards are quite enjoyable.

Here you will find tips to help you as a parent reward good behavior, as well as encourage more.

1. Smile, smile, smile.. One of the easiest and effective ways to reward good behavior to a child is simply smiling at them when they do something good. Smiling will off the child a sense of caring, which in turn allows them to smile back at you.

2. Reward your child with words. Another easy way to reward your child is by telling them what a good job they have done. The look on their face when you say kind words to them is all you need back.

3. Special hugs for special accomplishments. When your child does something good or accomplishes something, no matter how big or small it may be, grab them and give them a huge hug. The bigger the hug, the more loved they feel.

4. Give them a sticker for good behavior. Children will do a lot of good things in a days time. One of the cheapest ways to reward them is by giving them a sticker each time they do something good. Sounds like a little to you, but children love to receive little things that are pretty or cool. Find stickers that you know your child will like. Pretty pink ones for the girls, and maybe bug ones for the boys. Either way, they will know you care and do their best to get more.

5. Movie of their choice. If you know your child has done something good that day, show them you appreciate them by allowing them to pick out a movie they want to watch. This makes them excited and pushes them towards doing more good things.

6. Dinner of their choice. If your child does something exceptional, let them pick out dinner for that evening. Once they know what they want, invite them to help you cook it. Children love to help their moms and dads in the kitchen. Even if you give them the smallest job, they will enjoy it immensely.

7. Toy of their choice. Children love toys, if they know they are going to get a special toy for behaving that week, more than likely you will be buying a toy every week. Does not mean you are spoiling them, or that you are bribing them. It simply shows that you are rewarding them for their good behavior that week. If your child is a toddler, a simple visit to the dollar store will work just fine.

8. Give them an extra 30 minutes. You do not always have to buy something to show your appreciation towards your children. Giving them an extra 30 minutes to stay up and watch tv or play video games is the perfect example.

9. Take a trip to the park. Young children love to swing and slide. What better way to show that you appreciate what they have done by taking them to the park for an hour or so. It shows them you have noticed, plus it gets you and them out of the house for some well deserved fresh air.

10. Buy some arts & crafts. Fill up a basket full of arts & crafts that your child can pick out when he/she does something good. You can buy the unpainted figurines for them to paint. Finger painting is a fun craft. Paint by numbers is something many young children like to do. Cutting out shapes from construction paper. Or anything else that you know your child will enjoy. Give them a choice as to what they want to do as their reward for behaving.

There you have it,10 tips for parents to reward good behavior as well as encouraging more. Remember no matter how big or small the accomplishment is, a child needs to be rewarded in some way to show them that you notice. Does not have to be a big reward, but it should be something.
