How to Take Professional Looking Photos

Like painting, drawing, writing, and music, photography is one of the arts. For many it is a hobby. The average photographer takes images to record special moments and events. Others though take the art of photography to the next level. They become photographers. A photographer will take pictures of a variety of things. Photographers often frame and matte their images and sell them professionally. Here are ten tips that will help you to become a successful photographer.

1. The first tip that will help you to be a successful photographer is to rate how interested in photography you really are. Take a self assessment. Do you really enjoy taking photos or has it become a passion? How often do you usually take photos? Are you doing it once in a while, like a hobby, or do you take several shots each and everyday? Determining how interested in being a photographer you are before hand can save you a lot of time and money if you simply take snap shots for hobby. It is also the first step to take in truly becoming a successful photographer.

2. The second tip that will help you to become a successful photographer is to get a good camera. Digital cameras have become the most popular. They are simple to use and take great images. A good memory card will hold one thousand or more pictures at a time. That's a lot more than film can hold. Digital cameras usually have a zoom feature too. You can take your shots and upload them into your computer to view, share, or print as soon as they have been taken. A digital camera makes it all so simple. It is a worthwhile investment for the serious photographer.

3. The third tip that will help you to become a successful photographer is to stock up on batteries. Cameras need batteries and if yours are dead and you don't have more you have quite a problem. My suggestion is to get some of those rechargeable batteries and a good battery charger. This is the best investment a photographer can make besides the camera itself. A battery charger takes dead batteries and brings them to fully charged in ten to fifteen minutes. No more buying new batteries, and no more waiting until you can get more batteries.

4. The fourth tip that will help you to become a successful photographer is to figure out what you love to photograph the most. Maybe you enjoy taking shots of nature, or of animals. Maybe your favorite images are still life, of objects or what have you. Whatever it is that you really love to photograph is what you should spend the most time taking shots of. It's the genre in which your passion lies.

5. The fifth tip that will help you to be a successful photographer is to vary your subject matter. If you love taking nature shots that's wonderful. However, taking several images of looking into the woods and only looking into the woods is not going to do much good. Expand by taking shots of different types of trees, plants, stones, flowers, mosses, leaves, and such. Take a photo of a running stream or the sunlight shining through the treetops. Capture the dew on the grass or the rain on the leaves. Vary the images taken by taking images of several different aspects of the category of your choice.

6. The sixth tip that will help you to be a successful photographer is to take several shots at a time. No matter what the subject may be, you'll have a much better chance of getting that perfect image if you take several shots. Take at least ten of every item or object in your aim. The next tip will aid you as well.

7. The seventh tip that will help you to be a successful photographer is to shoot from several angels. As you are photographing whatever it may be vary your position. Take a shot from up high looking down, then one from down low looking up. Move to the side, snap, and then to the other side. The more angels you cover the better.

8. The eighth tip that will help you to be a successful photographer is to get a good printer. With a good laser printer you will be able to print your photos out, and then matte and frame them. Once this is done you can sell them online, at a local gift shop, or even at a gallery.

9. The ninth tip that will help you to be a successful photographer is to stock up on matte board and picture frames. Matte board is quite inexpensive and can be found at your nearest craft store. Frames need not be the most expensive available, but shouldn't be the least expensive either. If you are printing your photos at the size of 10" by 12" then choose your frames at least two to four inches larger on each side. The matte is generally cut to be two inches on all sides, except the bottom, which is typically three inches.

10. The tenth and final tip that will help you to be a successful photographer is to take pictures daily. If you are truly serious at becoming successful then you'll need to be taking a hundred or so shots per day. The more objects, scenes, etc. you are photographing the better. Thanks for reading and take care!
