10 Tools You Will Need to Take Care of Your Lawn

Cheryl Dennett
Every task has some kind of tool, usually several, that you need to complete the task. This is true of lawn care. Most people know you need a lawn mower to take care of your lawn. But, it takes more than just one tool to keep you lawn healthy. Here are 10 tools you need to keep your lawn looking great.

The tool you need most to help you take care of your lawn is a mower. It does not really matter what type of mower you have, as long as you have one. Of course, a riding mower takes less effort and less time to mow your lawn. But, not everyone can afford one. Some people prefer a push lawn mower because it helps them get needed exercise.

Another tool you will need is a trimmer. This will let you get to the grass in tight corners and along the edges of walkways and flower beds. You can also trim close to trees if your mower will not get close enough. You can get hand held trimmers and are powered by your hands. Or you can get power trimmers. These will do the job must faster. But, you also have to pay for the fuel to run them.

To prepare the soil for planting a new lawn, you will need a garden rake. This is a rake with a steel head that is usually flat. You can also use this to spread compost or fertilizer over your lawn.

If you have trees, you are going to need a leaf rake. And, even if you do not have trees but your neighbors do, you will still need to rake them up in the fall.

If you are doing some spot repairs to your lawn, you will need a shovel. They are also handy for turning the soil before planting a new lawn. Spades are similar to shovels and are good for making an edging between the lawn and flower beds or walkways.

Loosening compacted soil is best done with a garden fork. It is also handy for living and moving patches of sod or piles of compost. It will make quick work of any type of piled material that needs to be moved.

If you have a large lawn, a wheelbarrow will always come in handy. You will be able to haul larger amounts of material and make less trips across your large lawn. Even if your lawn is small, a wheelbarrow will cut your tasks down to a manageable level.

Most lawns need help when it comes to moisture. Having a sprinkler and hose is the easiest way to get the water to where it needs to be in your lawn. A sprinkler will help give your lawn consistent, deep watering without as much work as a hose and spray nozzle alone.

Spreaders will save you a lot of time. They will spread fertilizer, compost, or grass seed evenly. You can choose between a hand held or push type spreader.

If you hate weeds, a dandelion weeder will be a wonderful addition to your lawn care tool set. This tool will help you get to the whole root of dandelions and other weeds with long tap roots. You can use a trowel instead, but these tools are made especially for this job and are much easier to use.

Getting your lawn in tip top shape will help you have a place for your family and friends to gather and relax. But, you do not want to spend all your spare time working on your lawn. Hopefully, these tips on the tools you need will help you have a beautiful lawn in record time.
