Upcoming Comedy Movies for Mature Moviegoers

It seems like most movies these days are geared for young viewers. Indeed the teens and twenty and thirty somethings can finds several movies to see any given weekend. The following list contains movies that might be enjoyed by older more mature audiences.

"The Men Who Stare at Goats"

Starring George Clooney, Kevin Spacey, Jeff Bridges, Ewan McGregor and a number of other great actors, "The Men Who Stare at Goats", is a very funny movie. The story involves a disillusioned reporter played by McGregor who stumbles on a secret ongoing government project to develop a psychic military unit. This movie recently opened in theaters and is rated R for some language, brief nudity, and some drug content. It is perfect for the over 50 crowd as it pokes fun at 20 years of government funding for psychic warfare.

"Serious Moonlight"

Starring Meg Ryan and Timothy Hutton, this film explores the rocky relationship of a couple facing the effects of infidelity. Ryan's character deals with her husband's infidelity in an interesting manner and the tangled relationship of husband, wife, and mistress make for some good dark comedy moments. This movie will be released December 4, 2009 and is rated R for language and some threatening behavior.

"Pirate Radio"

A film about an illegal radio station operated on a boat in the North Sea in the 1960's where Philip Seymour Hoffman and the rest of the funny cast deliver a nostalgic look at the sixties rock 'n roll culture. Filled with great music and an eccentric cast of characters this is a great movie for the over 50 who can appreciate a comic look back at sixties culture. Released on November 13, 2009 and rated R for language and some sexual content including brief nudity.

"Old Dogs"

Starring Robin Williams and John Travolta as aging fathers suddenly in charge of young children. A supporting cast including Kelly Preston, Seth Green, the late Bernie Mac, and Matt Dillon provide a wealth of comedy scenes perfect for anyone dealing with young children or grandchildren. It will be released on November 25, 2009 and is rated PG.

"Did You Hear About the Morgans?"

Starring Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker as a New York power couple who witness a murder and are relocated to a small town in Wyoming, the interaction of an urban couple with a funny cast of small town characters provides some great laughs. The townspeople played by the likes of Sam Elliot and Mary Steenburgeon offer a comedic glimpse of small town America. The film will be released on December 18, 2009 and is not yet rated.

"It's Complicated"

A romantic comedy starring Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin, and Steve Martin in a complicated love triangle is a great romantic comedy with a mature cast that is not usually found in romantic comedies today. Streep and Baldwin play a divorced couple who allow themselves to fall back into old patterns. Streep and Martin, also recovering from a divorce, are attracted to each other but her ex-husband complicates the situation. An excellent romantic comedy that will be released on December 25, 2009 and is not yet rated.

"Valentine's Day"

A romantic comedy with a large comedy cast including Julia Roberts, Pattrick Dempsey, Jamie Foxx, Queen Latifah, George Lopez, Hector Elizondo and many more, the story deals with a number or singles and couples trying to deal with Valentine's Day. This movie shows funny situations for a variety of age groups. It is slated for release February 12, 2010 and is not yet rated.

"Hot Tub Time Machine"

Starring John Cusack, Crispin Glover, Chevy Chase, and Kate Walsh, "Hot Tub Time Machine," is a great guy comedy. A group of friends are sitting around the hot tub one night drinking and are transported back to the 1980's. This film will be released on March 10, 2010 and is not yet rated.

"Date Night"

A romantic comedy starring Steve Carell and Tina Fey as a bored married couple who attempts to spice up their life with a trip to New York City, "Date Night", is a funny take on the idea of embracing the average life. In a case of mistaken identity the couple is pursued by the mob and faces a number of hilarious situations while trying to make it back to their ordinary life. Slated for release on April 9, 2010, it is not yet rated.

"Little Fockers"

The third installment in the "Meet the Parents" storyline, "Little Fockers", stars Robert Deniro, Blythe Danner, Dustin Hoffman, Barbra Streisand, Teri Polo, Ben Stiller, Jessica Alba, and Owen Wilson. Characters played by Polo and Stiller are involved with raising five-year-old twins while dealing with a number of distractions from family and friends. The comedic interaction between the two sets of grandparents provides a great comedy experience for older moviegoers. Scheduled release date is July 30, 2010 and it is not yet rated.

These are some great upcoming movies that might be enjoyed by older audiences. They have more mature characters, may provide a good opportunity to have a chuckle at the antics of the young, or show a funny nostalgic look at the past.

    Nice suggestions! I am very interested in It's Complicated, and I was interested in Men Who Stare At Goats, but it has been getting pretty bad reviews, so now I don't know about that one . . . .

    Love going to the movies...seems like I'm always taking the grandsons these days instead of adult movies!! Will have to check out a few of these :)
