Finding quality romance movies that offer something besides breathless teenage drama can be difficult. The following movies might be appealing for older moviegoers who are not interested in the standard teen romance fair that seems to make up a large portion of new releases.

"It's Complicated" is a romantic comedy starring Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin, and Steve Martin as characters involved in a difficult love triangle. Baldwin and Streep play a divorced couple who reconnected romantically. Their relationship is complicated by the fact that Baldwin's character is married. At the same time Streep's character has feelings for the recently divorced architect she hired to redesign her kitchen. All three struggle with their feeling about love, marriage, and divorce. This movie will be released on December 25, 2009 and is not yet rated.

"Up in the Air" stars George Clooney as a disheartened man who lives out of a suitcase as he pursues the thankless task of traveling around the country firing people. When a new arrogant employee, played by Vera Farmiga challenges his way of life, they both embark on an enlightening trip. This film will be released on December 25, 2009 and is rated for language and some sexual content.

"The Young Victoria", a wonderful period piece starring Emily Blunt and Rupert Friend as Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, depicts the early years of their romance. It is beautiful film with a strong supporting cast including Miranda Richardson as the mother of Queen Victoria. It will be released on March 6, 2009, and is rated PG for some mild language, violence, and sensuality.

"Our Family Wedding", a great ensemble comedy starring Forrest Whitaker, Regina King, Carlos Mencia, America Ferrara, and Lance Gross, centers around two families preparing for a wedding. Described as a cross cultural romantic comedy it would be an excellent story for any older moviegoers with grown children. It will be released on March 19, 2010 and is not yet rated.

"Date Night", starring Tina Fey and Steve Carell, is a lively romantic comedy about a couple who craves a little excitement in their mundane lives. They plan an exciting night in the city and get more than they expected for when a case of mistaken identity brings them a little too much excitement. This movie will be released on April 9, 2010 and is not yet rated.

"Sex and the City 2", starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kim Cattrall, and Kristin Davis, follows four consummate New York women and their men as they struggle with marriage, relationships, and getting older. This film will be released on May 28, 2010 and will most likely be rated R for language and sexual content.

The Adjustment Bureau, starring Matt Damon and Emily, Blunt is a mysterious romantic drama about an up and coming politician who is attracted to a beautiful woman. As the story progresses, he realizes that strange sources seem to be working to keep them apart; and he tries to unravel the mystery. This film is not yet rated and release is slated for sometime in the fall of 2010.

Romance movies that might appeal to the over 50 crowd can be hard to find. The movies listed above seem like a good fit for more mature audiences who are tired of the formula teen romances that studios seem to reproduce over and over.

I enjoyed (with only one exception) the movie, You've Got Mail. The living together, etc., aspect I didn't care about. It could have been better if the two individuals were simply single! But, Oh, no! Horrors if there wasn't something salacious going on...
