10 Versions of Michael Jordan that Should Be in NBA 2K11

It was recently revealed that in the latest version of NBA 2K11 players will be able to play as 10 different versions of Michael Jordan. Most people are treating this like great news, but I find it a little bit sad. The NBA has become such an uninteresting sport that NBA 2K11 is resorting to adding not one, but ten Michael Jordans in their game. Am I the only one that thinks this reeks of desperation?

I guess it makes sense since the biggest star in the NBA just made himself a villain in "the Lebacle" of 2010. Dwayne Wade is now a sidekick, Kobe Bryant is not well liked, Dwight Howard has never had a meaningful performance in his life and Kevin Durant is unfortunately living in anonymity in Oklahoma City. Shaq and Iverson are washed up, Kevin Garnett is past his prime, nobody particularly cares about Paul Pierce or Amare Stoudamire and Tim Duncan will quietly go about his business like usual. So 2K Sports looked around and realized their hope was to dig up a superstar from more than a decade ago.

Hey, that's fine, I guess some people will like playing as ten different versions of Michael Jordan in NBA 2K11 but after reading more about this feature I realized that's not exactly what the player does. In an article on CNBC by Darren Rovell it was explained that players will get to take control of Michael Jordan in Game 2 of the Celtics series in 1986, the game that Jordan scored 69 against the Cavs in 1990, Jordan's 55 against the Knicks in 1995 and seven other games.

So NBA 2K11 doesn't have 10 different Michael Jordans, but one Michael Jordan in 10 different scenarios. I was hoping that if 2K Sports really went this "10 different Michael Jordans" route that they would really go through with it. A video game with 10 Michael Jordans would be more like this.

North Carolina Michael Jordan - No matter what the player does in NBA 2K11 Michael Jordan automatically makes the game winning shot. Even if the player is down by 13, Jordan will hit a 14-pointer to win the National Championship.

Chicago Bulls Michael Jordan - The most famous of all the Michael Jordans. He'll make ridiculous shots, amazing dunks and stick out his tongue while he is doing it.

Slam Dunk Contest Michael Jordan - As Michael Jordan in the slam dunk contest on NBA 2K11 the player will always win because they are Michael Jordan. Even if the player misses a dunk and Dominique Wilkins does 17 back flips mid air Jordan will still (wrongfully) win.

Pro Stars Michael Jordan - Remember that cartoon with Jordan, Bo Jackson and Wayne Gretzky? This Michael Jordan kicks major ass, literally, although Bo Jackson is still better in Pro Stars and NBA 2K11.

Comeback Michael Jordan - Comeback Michael Jordan has an interesting ability in NBA 2K11. Whenever the player presses the shoot button Jordan first commits an offensive foul by pushing the defender 10 feet away from him and then shooting the ball.

Gambling Michael Jordan - In NBA 2K11 gambling Michael Jordan spends most of his time on the golf course. Who can blame him? Charles Barkley sucks at golf and is willing to gamble all his money away.

Mendoza Michael Jordan - Mendoza Michael Jordan will be as good at basketball as he is at baseball. So the player can expect Mendoza Michael Jordan to shoot about 20 percent from the field in NBA 2K11.

Executive Michael Jordan - Executive Michael Jordan makes franchise mode in NBA 2K11 more difficult. As the player goes through the season Executive Michael Jordan will trade away the good players and draft bad players every year.

Wizards Michael Jordan - At random times in NBA 2K11 Wizards Michael Jordan will announce he is coming back to play on your team. Wizards Michael Jordan will always be controlled by the computer and will hog the ball. The better, younger players on the player's team will have to steal the ball from the other team and Wizards Michael Jordan in order to win the game.

Hall of Fame Michael Jordan - Every year at the Hall of Fame ceremony in NBA 2K11 Hall of Fame Michael Jordan will opening the festivities by choosing one player in the league and blasting them before handing the microphone over to that year's inductees.
