10 Ways to Ask a Guy to the Prom

Have No Fear! This Guide is Here to Help!

Dominique Williams
It is almost that time when teenagers around the country are getting ready for what they have been waiting for all year...the big prom! Many times, guys will approach girls and ask them to be their prom dates, but sometimes it does not work out that way. Sometimes girls have to be the more aggressive and ask a guy out, or else he will end up going with someone else! Asking a guy to the prom can be a nerve wrecking experience if you have not done it before. If you have no clue on how to ask a guy to prom, have no fear because this guide is here to help you! Use some of the following ideas to ask the guy of your dreams to be your perfect prom date.

Idea #1: Gutsy You!

"Gutsy you" simply means, if you have the guts just ask him! Some girls are rather dominant and aggressive and have absolutely no problem asking a guy to the prom. If you do not have as much courage, practice before you ask him. Walk up to a mirror with a bold look in your eyes and say, "Hey! Have a prom date yet? If not, want to take me?" Ok, you do not have to use those exact words but find a way to say it without embarrassing yourself. Say it over and over until you feel confident enough to ask him the next day.

Idea #2: Handwritten

This idea is very self explanatory. Write down the question, fold it up, and give it to him. If you are afraid to do that, find out where his locker is and slip it in there. But please make sure it is the right locker.

Idea # 3: Internet Love!

This basically means just email the guy! You could also use social networking websites such as Facebook or Myspace to send him a message.

Idea #4: Call or Text Him

If you have his number (or can at least get his number from a friend), either call him or text him. If you call him and he doesn't pick up, do not ask him in a voice mail message. Just call back later.

Idea #5: Friends Can Come in Handy

If you are the extremely shy type, find one of your trust-worthy friends to ask him. If the guy is on the fence, maybe your friend can even convince him otherwise. Hey, that's what friends are for!

Idea #6: Drop Hints

You can also ask a guy to the prom by dropping a few hints. Flirt with him too and make it obvious that you want him to take you to the prom.

Idea #7: School Paper Advertisement

This is a rather gutsy move but if you are involved in the school newspaper and you know that he reads it, create a "personals ad" that you know he will read and know immediately that it is pertaining to him.

Idea #8: Sing It

If you are a musically inclined person, sing the question to him! I have done this previously before and it worked like a charm!

Idea #9: Incorporate Hobbies

If you know that he likes basketball, pass him a basketball with a note attached to it. If you know that he likes a certain radio station and listens to it every day at the same time, have the DJ announce your question on air to him! Those are only a couple of ideas, but you can really get creative with this one.

Idea #10: Mail Him

If you know where he lives, mail him a card with the question in it. With this tip, try not to come off as a stalker. If you never knew where he lived in the first place, do not try to figure it out. There is a good chance he will think you were watching him.

Asking a guy to the prom is not a hard thing to do. If his response to you is no, do not think that it is the end of the world. Find another guy to ask to the prom. Just make sure that you enjoy the most memorable night of your life!

We did all sorts of odd ball things to ask out dates in high school. And yes, I think if a gal likes a guy she shouldn't worry about asking him out. My wife initiated our courtship and here we are happy as can be 11 years and six kids later!

Our daughter found out that a guy she liked was going alone to the Prom. She went "alone" with her girlfriends and ended up dancing all night with him! Cheers, the times they are a changin'

Oh wow! When I was a teenager, it was still considered taboo for a girl to ask a guy out, even just to the prom. Things have changed quite a bit!
