10 Ways to Include More Fruit in Your Diet

Carla Raley
Fruit has been around since the beginning of time. It was what God made to feed Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. It is delicious, and will make you healthier, thinner, and more energetic! A diet of heavy processed foods will weigh you down and keep your body from working at it's full potential. A diet with plenty of raw or even cooked fruits and vegetables will lighten your body and clear your mind.

(1) A very simple way of making sure that you are eating enough fruit is to make that the ONLY thing you eat from the time you get up until mid afternoon. You can eat all you want this way, even to continually nibbling on fruit. It will pass through your system in around 30 minutes if you do not eat anything else with it, and by doing that, will clean your colon and help heal some of the health problems you may have. A very good book to read on this subject is "The Raw Food Detox Diet" by Natalia Rose.

(2) Buy a watermelon and cut it up, making it easier to munch on all throughout the day. Watermelon is sweet and cleansing, will hydrate you, and is actually a detoxing, cleansing food. You can freeze the chunks, too, and eat them like ice cream. On a hot day, put the frozen chunks of watermelon in your blender, add lemon lime soda or lemonade, and blend until liquid. It's wonderful! Grapes are another fruit that are delicious frozen, and children LOVE them that way.

(3) For a quick dessert when unexpected company comes, buy bananas in bulk. Slice them and layer them on a cookie sheet, and freeze. When they are frozen, transfer them to a freezer bag. For a quick dessert, put them in a bowl, and top with chocolate syrup. They taste very much like creamy ice cream when eaten this way.

(4) Make smoothies for breakfast. Simply put ice cubes, frozen fruit such as strawberries, bananas, peaches, or whatever else you have in your freezer, some yogurt and either milk, water or juice, and blend until it's liquid enough to drink. While you are getting used to the change over to more fruit, you can even add some sugar. Children just love these for breakfast. They are hearty enough to stand alone as a meal.

(5) Smoothies can also be a dessert. Add frozen fruit of your choice, ice cream and milk, and blend. These are so good, you may never want to go back to anything else! Top with whipped cream if you desire, to make your smoothies fancier.

(6) Instead of peanut butter sandwiches, try peanut butter on apples. Or even add apples to your peanut butter sandwiches. You can slice the apple and scoop up the peanut butter, or you can cut the apple in half, scoop out the seeds, and put the peanut butter where the seeds were. You can also slice an apple and add the slices to your peanut butter sandwich.

(7) Stores sell yogurt raisins now in little boxes or larger cans. These are very good for snacks or desserts, and children will think they are candy!

(8) You can also dehydrate fruit and make fruit leathers to take with you on the go. You can invest in a dehydrator, which I highly recommend, or use your oven. You can even use plain sunshine. There are many websites and books on how to do this. Stores also sell dehydrated fruit in strips or chunks. They are expensive, but very, very good, and in the long run, a much better buy than candy when you consider your health.

(9) Add fruit to your favorite chicken or tuna salad. Apples and grapes are just wonderful additions in these salads. Even high scale restaurants make it this way.

(10) Try apple fritters for breakfast, with powdered sugar or syrup. Fried bananas are also very good for breakfast, and also go very well with fish dishes.

By being creative, you will learn to enjoy having more fruit in your diet, and you will see the health benefits almost immediately. Remember, fruit was the first food God fed his children. It is sweet, addicting, hydrating, will make you feel and look better, and add years to your life!

Excellent tips. As for #1, I absolutely cannot go without eggs for breakfast. At night, sometimes I get excited just thinking about my morning eggs. I love the tuna suggestion. Ive been adding apples and pickles to my tuna and chicken salad for as long as I can remember. Thanks!

Good article mom. My problem isn't getting enough fruit it's keeping it in the house. Your grandkids at two bags of grapes in two days. I think I will blame you next time. Did you tell them they needed to eat alot of fruit? LOL
