10 Ways to Make Money in College

Nathan Leber
After four years of college one thing I've realized about all college students is that we all need more money. Some of us are the type that saves every penny to pay off their student loans and some of us just use it to by more beer. Whatever the case is if you are in college at one point or another you will find yourself in need of some quick and easy cash. I've learned a lot of tricks and tips on ways to make a few quick bucks really easy. By using these different resources you can easily make a small amount of money with little to no effort or time involved. What you'll see below are a list of just some of the Strategies that I've used to make a few quick bucks and supplement my income during my college years.

Strategy #1. Ebay

Ebay is an extremely easy place to take almost anything unwanted that you have and sell it for at least a small amount of profit. Even if you're not an Ebay pro you can quickly set up an account and take any unwanted items you may have and sell it. Easy items for college students to sell on Ebay include electronics, gaming systems, old computers and computer components, jewelry, clothing, shoes, cell phones, etc. We all have a lot of this junk sitting around that we will never use again. Most have at least one old cell phone collecting dust somewhere and that can be sold quickly and easily on Ebay even if it an older model. Most used cell phones Ebay will easily get a minimum of $10 as long as it works. Just be honest with your listing and issue reasonable shipping prices. If you aren't sure what price to start your bidding at just start it at .99 or do an ebay search for similar items and see what a reasonable price would be.

Strategy #2. TreasureTrooper.com

TreasureTrooper.com is one of my all time favorite websites. I make approximately $20 a month just of my own earnings on this site. I spend approximately 2 minutes a day on the site to make this money so overall its a pretty good return on my time for a small amount of quick money. What TreasureTrooper.com is, is a website that has free registration and then you participate in raffles, drawings, and lots of surveys. Also for every person that signs up under you, you get a share of their profits as well as well as anyone that they may sign up under them. Using this method the money can quickly add up nicely while you do absolutely nothing. Another great benefit of TreasureTrooper.com is that you can also earn money by shopping almost anywhere online and earning TreasureTrooper points when you make purchases.

Strategy #3. Collect Aluminum Cans

Yeah I know this sounds ridiculious but trust me you can make some very quick cash using this method. Scrap metal prices have soared within the last few years with aluminum being on of the highest. Most recylcing centers will give you between .70 and .80 cents a pound for aluminum cans. Aluminum cans are also extremely easy to get and most people are just too lazy to take a few minutes of their time to collect their own cans and turn them in. If you live in a dorm you can easily collect a lot of cans by telling those that live in your hall to just save their cans for you and drop them off at your room. If you're a little daring you can also collect a lot of cans easily by checking to see if you dorm has recycling bins. Most halls have these and all you have to do is get a trash bag and go to the aluminum bin and dump all those cans into your bag. Easy and simple. Then take all your cans to the recycling center and they will weigh them and either give you cash or write you a check depending on the amount of cans that you brought in.

Strategy #4. Sell books, cd's, and games on Half.com

Half.com is another one of my favorite websites and it is a subsidiary site of Ebay. Half.com allows you to sell and book, cd's, dvd's and video games on their. Listing is simple and easy. Simply enter the ISBN and list the condition and any other additional comments and you're good to go. Another benefit of this site is that their is no minimum time that the item can be listed and their are no listing fees. This is a good way to get rid of old text books and movies that you never use. You can usually pick up additional books pretty easy from friends or just by looking in the trash at the end of the semester or quarter. You would be amazed at how many books students just throw away as soon as they are done with them.

Strategy #5. Collect and sell used ink cartridges

Used ink and toner cartridges can be found everywhere. We all use them and have them and most of us just throw them away or give them away for free to a Staples or other office supply store. The truth that most people don't know is that these used cartridges can actually be sold for money to cartridge recyclers. Just imagine how many cartridges are used on one single college campus. Another way to find more cartridges is to go into the different department offices and see if someone already collects their's of it they just throw them away. If they just throw them away make some sort of collection bin and ask if you can put it somewhere convenient for them in the office. By doing a quick google search of "used ink cartridge buyers", you will soon find there are many places that will buy your cartridges and most of them will even pay for the shipping expenses as well.

Strategy #6. Sell old Cd's to Secondspin.com

Secondspin.com is another of my favorite websites they buy almost all used CD's and a lot of video games and dvd's as well. Simply go to their site and set up a free account and type in the ISBN of your old CD's and you will have the price they will pay for it instantly given to you. All you have to do is list all your CD's and place an order and then send them your CD's. In a few weeks your order will be processed and they will send you a check for your items as well as money to reimburse your shipping expenses. Nothing but pure and easy profit here.

Strategy #7. Sell old clothing to Plato's Closet

Plato's Closet is another great way to make a couple bucks. If you're not familiar with Plato's Closet it is a store that sells gently used name brand teen clothing. We all have a pile of unused clothes sitting around whether it is just something that you've outgrown or something that you bought and then ended up not wearing. All it takes to convert this into cash is by throwing them into your clothes basket and taking them to Plato's Closet. They will then sort the ones that they will buy and they'll give you a price which you can take or refuse and have paid to you as cash or store credit. Remember take the clothes that are in season at the time, they don't like to stock a lot of inventory that they can't immediately sell, so don't take in that old sweater when it's July.

Strategy #8. Donate Plasma

Simple, easy, and straight forward. If you're not afraid of needles look up your nearest plasma donation center and you can donate your plasma regularly as long as your are disease/sickness free and healthy. You'll usually get about $20 a session.

Strategy #9. Start a Blog and advertise with Google Adsense

How many people do you know that have blogs? A lot right? How many of these people are making money off of their blogs? Now the number dwindles. Blogging is one of the simples and easiest forms of internet marketing where big bucks are made. What you have to do start is simply go to any blog provider and set up a free blog. You can blog about anything and everything. Once you have you're blog established then you can set up an account with Goodgle Adsense. The link to this can be found on Google's main webpage. You will be walked through and easy step by step process on how to start having ads placed on your blog. When people go to your blog and then click on the ads you'll get paid and you'll get paid even more if they go to the other site and buy the advertised product. Experiment with different forms of this and use what works best. Sometimes this starts slow but if you're patient big rewards will be reaped.

Strategy #10. Put your Money into and Certificate of Deposit(CD)

Another really easy way to make some money is buy taking a minimum of $50 and investing it at a bank in one of their Certificates of Deposit(CD). Depending on the bank and the amount of money you deposit you will recieve anywhere between 1.5% of interest in a year up to 2.35% every two weeks. Shop around and find what bank is offering the best CD rates in your area. The best part about this is that you'll make extra money by doing nothing more than having you're money in the bank.

Hopefully you can use these simple and easy strategies to make a tidy little profit in those crazy and fun college years.
