With so many things that need to be bought life can get expensive. Groceries, like the electric and those heating costs, are a monthly expense. When all of your monthly expenses add up it can be frustrating and overwhelming. People now a days are trying to cut every corner they can. They are trying to save money. To get more for less. It is not easy to pay for everything that needs to be paid for. Money left over to put into savings is a luxury.

Food is one of those things that you just have to have though. Luckily there are several ways that your family can save at the grocery store. Each and every time you take a trip to your local food mart try these ten tips. I guarantee you'll get more for less!

1. The first tip I give you is to make a grocery list. When we go into the store with out a grocery list we have an idea of what we need but not specific items. Every thing is an option. We see it we buy it. When we make a list before going to the store we enter the store with just the specific items that are on the list in mind. We buy those items. A smart shopper can stick to the list without grabbing extras. Making the list at home allows you to see in the refrigerator, the freezer and the pantry. You can put the items you see you need on the list. With out a list shoppers are also likely to forget important items.

2. The second tip that will help you to save money is to calculate the costs of each item on the list. Once you've made your list add a price next to each item and add them all up to see what the total will be. If you are way over then you can cross off a few items. That is a lot better than be way over at the check out counter. You may ever see that once you've totaled the cost of your items there will be money left in your budget for more. In a such case you can add on a few extra needed items. It will all be known before you begin to shop.

3. The third tip that can help you to save money at the grocery store is to read the flyer. Most grocery stores publish and distribute a weekly flyer containing special deals and prices. This can help you with having accurate prices for your list. This can also help you to choose your items.

4. The fourth tip I give you is to use coupons. There will likely be coupons in your grocery stores flyer. Use them! You can also search online for coupons of specific items. Most product makers have websites and you can simply type in the web address on the label and print out coupons for the products you use regularly, each time! The Sunday paper also has coupon inserts. Get one and clip! Use a coupon organizer to help you keep them sorted and as you make your grocery list attach the coupons for the products you'll be shopping for to it with a paper clip. Many stores double coupons up to a dollar. That means if you have a coupon for .55 off of shredded cheese you'll end up saving a dollar and ten cents on it.

5. The fifth tip that I can give you to help lower your food expense is to compare stores. Many times smaller stores are more expensive than larger stores. You may be able to go to the grocery store that's ten miles farther to save over twenty dollars.

6. The sixth tip is to shop at discount grocery outlets. Stores like Save A Lot offer foods of quality with prices cut in half. Dollar stores often carry many food items too and can save you so much! These types of stores have become very popular with grocery shoppers due to that simple fact: You get more for less.

7. The seventh saving tip is to buy in bulk. Like shopping at a discount store you can get more for less. When you shop at a whole sale store you get a case of this or that. The price per item in the case breaks down to a quarter of the price you'd pay buying the items separately at the grocery store. You end up paying .20 or so for canned goods compared to almost a dollar per can at the grocery store. The savings add up quickly.

8. The eighth tips that will help you cut your grocery costs is to bring a calculator. Add up the total cost as you go a long, isle through isle. This will help you to know exactly how much is already in the cart. The cost of items adds up quickly. This way you will have no surprises. You'll also have the exact prices. Once you've added the last item into the cart you add on the tax. Keep that total in mind and see how much you save at checkout after handing the cashier your coupons.

9. The ninth tip that can help you save money is to shop alone. When you bring family members with you it is so much harder to stick to your shopping list. Children are great at adding extras. Leave the "but please..." at home and save both time and money!

10. The tenth tip I give you that will help your family to save money on groceries is to not buy all name brand items. We somehow have been trained to believe that generic means poor quality and less taste. That is so not true! Generic means less money spent advertising. That means products can be sold to us for less! Thanks for reading and take care!
