10 Worst Celebrity Breakups of 2010

What were some of the worst celebrity break-ups of 2010?

The month of December alone has already had its share from Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron, to Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds, to Elizabeth Hurley and Arun Nayar, Yet because these breakups are so recent, I'm going to wait before putting them on any top 10 list.

10) Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins:

I was particularly sad about this breakup because Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins seemed like one of the few stable celebrity relationships. Of course, Susan Sarandon herself doesn't seem to broken-up about the split.

After 23 years, she is enjoying the process of dating again, a process which she describes as both exhilarating and terrifying. As for rumors that she was dating 31-year-old Jonathan Bricklin, Sarandon embraces her status as a cougar. Whatever works for her, I guess!

9) Courteney Cox and David Arquette:

After ten years of marriage, Courteney Cox and David Arquette announced their separation. And he is having a difficult time coping. David Arquette admits that he has been drinking heavily. His psychologist believes that Arquette is having a nervous breakdown.

8) Tish and Billy Ray Cyrus:

As if Miley Cyrus didn't have enough troubles. This year, her parents decided to divorce after 17 years of marriage. Tish Cyrus denied claims that she had had an affair with Bret Michaels.

7) Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas:

For 18-year-old Demi Lovato, this was a particularly nasty breakup. Not only did she lose her boyfriend, but she also lost a best friend. After the break-up, Joe Jonas began dating Ashley Greene, even bringing her along for the "Camp Rock 2" tour. This could not have been easy for Lovato, as she left tour to check into a treatment center for emotional and physical issues.

6) Eva Longoria and Tony Parker:

After 7 years years, Eva Longoria announced her intention to divorce Tony Parker. Eva Longoria confirmed to "Extra's" Mario Lopez that she had found hundreds of text messages from another woman on Tony Parker's phone. This woman had been married to one of Parker's teammates.

5) Sandra Bullock and Jesse James:

Sandra Bullock called it quits after she learned that Jesse James had been accused of having affairs with at least five women. Jesse James was penitent about his transgressions. He checked into a treatment center which specializes in drug, alcohol, and sex addiction. Jesse James issued an apology, claiming, "It's because of my poor judgment that I deserve everything bad that is coming my way."

4) Tammy Lynn Michaels and Melissa Etheridge:

Actress Tammy Lynn Michaels got the short end of the stick when Melissa Etheridge filed documents to end their 9-year domestic partnership. Etheridge asked for joint custody of their three children and requested for the court not to award financial support to Michaels. Michaels had largely given up her career and financial prospects to be a stay-at-home mother. Because of their breakup, Tammy was left broke.

3) Tipper and Al Gore:

I thought that Tipper and Al Gore were one of the few functional marriages in Washington. Yet this year, they decided to divorce after 40 years of marriage. Their breakup took an ugly turn when a 54-year-old masseuse claimed that Al Gore had sexually assaulted her in a 2006 incident.

2) Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston:

Can we nominate Levi Johnston for worst boyfriend of 2010? After Bristol Palin and Levi Johnson ended their second engagement, Palin admitted that she had been naive in giving him another chance. Johnston seemed more obsessed with fame than with being a father to their son, Tripp. Bristol was also heartbroken about the possibility that he had fathered another child with ex-girlfriend, Larissa Garcia.

1) Elin Nordegren and Tiger Woods:

I'll bet Tiger Woods regrets crashing into that tree back in November 2009. Reports of his numerous affairs surfaced just after the crash, forever tarnishing the golfer's formerly squeaky clean image. His divorce from Elin Nordegren was finalized in the summer of 2010. Reports have circulated that she is now dating a 35-year-old South African. After what she's been through, I'm rooting for her to have someone special in her life!
