Always plan out your days in advance. Map out your plans and where to stay. Make reservations in advance if possible. Know what your going to stay each day.
Educate yourself in the place or places that you will be staying at. Check out what activities and things there are to see and do. Sit down with your family and go over the things that you want to see and do. You can't always do everything, so pick what appeals to you and your family the most.
You need to prepare for children of all ages. Whether you are flying, driving or on a cruise ship. Cruise ships do have lots of activities for everyone. Make sure that your kids want to do them. If your traveling by car, bring a cooler to put water and juices and snack in it. Make sure your kids are in their seatbelts correctly at all times.
If you plan on visiting friends or relatives, let them know in advance. Don't expect them to take you in just because. Have your plan of stay in advance.
Safety is very important at all times. When your not in your own comfort and enviroment it can make you nervous. Always go in the restrooms with your children. Even adults should have someone watching out for them. Set rules with children while away from home to protect them. Educate them in advance in case of emergencies that could occur. Go over scenarios with them and talk to them about dangers of traveling.
Make sure you have enough and a little more money to spend in case of an emergency. Plan in advance what it will cost for your stay, food and gas etc. Watch your spending as you travel as well.
If your driving, make sure your car is in good running order. Have your oil changed and fluids checked. Make sure your tires are in good shape as well. Bring a first aid kit to keep in your car.
Don't forget to bring your cell phone charger. It could be your life saver in an emergency. Always charge your cell phones to full before leaving on your vacation.
Let relatives at home know what your doing and where your going, and when you will return. Give them a call as well to let them know how your doing if you can. Don't go on social networks and post your plans.
If you have pets, make sure they are taken care of with someone you trust. Some animals are good travelers and some places they welcome them depending on your vacation. Do make sure that if you leave them, that they will be treated well. If you take them, make accomodations for them. Don't just leave them in a car.
Make your vacations a happy time. A good memory to be shared with all.
