The best reason to lose weight is for one's health. Don't lose weight for pure vanity, in the end it won't last. Health is what counts most. For successful weight loss do NOT do these 10 things!

1. DO NOT rely on one food as a magic cure. Don't go on the all banana diet or the all cabbage diet or the all grape fruit diet or the all you can eat meat diet. No one food will provide you all the nutrition you need and additionally you will get bored really fast and won't be able to sustain such a food diet.

2. Don't lose weight fast! Have small goals. The slower you take to lose weight the less likely you are to gain it back and also the less likely you are to throw your body chemistry out of whack!

3. Don't say you will start a diet on Monday. The best time to start is now. Don't put off what you want into the future, all you have is the present moment

4. Do NOT drink soda or diet soda. These drinks make you hungrier and thirstier! All your body needs for hydration is water. You can also get plenty of liquid in the foods you eat if you are eating healthy.

5. Do NOT buy clothes you intend to fit into. You will enjoy shopping more for new clothes when you can actually wear them.

6. Do NOT be critical of yourself. Love yourself now and love yourself at your present weight. You are choosing to lose weight for self improvement, do NOT choose to lose weight for negative reasons! Regard losing weight as pampering yourself, and wanting to be around on this earth longer.

7. Do NOT spend money on a gym or exercise equipment! If you want to exercise, then good old fashioned walking is the ticket to starting an exercise program. pace yourself. Later you can reward yourself with a new bike or new rowing machine or gym membership, but first prove to yourself you can exercise for free for at least 2 months before spending money. It will give you time to think what you really want to do.

8. Do NOT weigh yourself every day! Weighing yourself every day becomes obsessive and self defeating. Instead weigh yourself once a month. You know how well you are doing without a scale. You know how you feel, how your clothes feel etc.

9. Do NOT get fooled by healthy cereals. Read the labels. What sounds and looks healthy may actually be loaded with sugar and or fat. Stick with corn flakes or plain oatmeal over other cereals loaded with sugar such as granola or fruity hot cereals.

10. Do NOT skip meals. It is better to eat frequent small meals and keep your energy level even and well fueled than to upset your body chemistry like a yo yo.
