Along with Avatar, two other great films were released in 2009. Up from Pixar, the people that brought us Toy Story and Finding Nemo haven't disappointed me yet. And, there is also, Up In Air with George Clooney, a movie that has a very smart script and serious chances to take home Best Picture.
I wrote this list in reverse chronological order. Instead of 2000 to 2009, it goes from 2009 to 2000. Some of my favorite films of the decade are on the list, including The Simpsons Movie, Cast Away, Gladiator and Rocky Balboa. Some of the critically acclaimed, equally brilliant films like No Country for Old Men and Crash made the list.
We've had the most wild, unique, devastating and troubling decade. In 2001, we were attacked by terrorists. The country has since become overwhelmed with paranoia and fear. In 2008, we elected the first African-American President in Barack Obama. We've seen the deaths of many movie legends, including Kathryn Hepburn, Paul Newman and Charlton Heston. Movies have gone from bad to horrible, great to mediocre, and magical to completely lackluster.
In a decade that has given us some of the worst films ever made (GI Joe, Alexander, etc.) and very few of the best films ever, this is my list of the greatest movies of the 2000s.

Pan's Labyrinth rules.
A good list, actually its a really good list, like I'd want to own most of these movies, but 100 films is easy, Tim Sexton and I narrowed the past decade down to 10 Essential Films. Check it out on my profile.
Where is The Queen????
This list brought back some good movie memories.
I have not seen very many of these.
Perhaps you could get in on the voting on Golden Globes, etc. They need some help and you pick fabulous choices.
What a terrific list, Luke!
