After consulting with several make-up artists the world over, the general consensus seems to be that, while many companies do produce make-up removers for people with sensitive skin, the best way to go is all natural. When you choose to use a product that has one or two ingredients and that you know came directly from nature, the odds that you will have a negative reaction are slim to none. There are, as with everything, exceptions in which someone may have an allergy to the natural removers, in which case alternative methods should be used. Yet, for the most part, these natural eye make-up removers are gentle, effective, and actually nourishing for your lashes and the skin around your eyes.
One of the favored, all natural eye make-up removers is something that most of us already have in our kitchens. Olive oil. According to historians, olive oil has been used for centuries in Europe, not only for cooking, bus as a healing salve. It is rich in essential fatty acids and other nutrients and it is also an incredibly effective eye make-up remover. Simply dab a cotton ball or cotton pad into some olive oil and gently wipe the areas on and around your eyes where you want to remove make-up. This works wonders removing eyeshadow, eyeliner and even waterproof mascara. Not only does it remove every last trace of your make-up, but the nutritive properties of the oil will condition your lashes and your skin as well, all while being completely natural and chemical free.
Like olive oil, castor oil is another wonderful, natural and highly conditioning product you can use to remove eye make-up. Organic castor oil is becoming easier and easier to find in health food stores and many larger chain stores, making this an ultra healthy choice for your eyes and much more inexpensive then purchasing commercially prepared "organic" make-up solutions. Using it is as simple as using a cotton ball to dab some castor oil and then wiping it around and on your eye area until all traces of cosmetics are gone. You do not have to wash the oil off either as it has no odor and is quickly absorbed into the skin giving it an extra boost of moisture.
While olive oil and castor oil are the most well-known and used alternatives to chemically based eye make-up removers, the options for healthy, all-natural eye make-up removers are plenty. Other greatly effective, beneficial and natural oils that can be used to remove make-up safely and effectively are almond oil, chamomile oil, and vitamin E oil. You can use any of these singularly or create your own remover to taste by making a mixture of two or more of the oils, for example, almond oil and vitamin E oil, or castor oil mixed with chamomile oil. No matter which single oil or combination thereof you choose, rest assured that your eyes will be treated gently, safely and even benefit from the natural ingredients found in the oils.
The search for an all natural, non irritating, effective, nourishing and safe eye make-up remover is over! With products most of us already have around the house, we can remove all traces of make-up at the end of the day while giving the skin around our eyes and our lashes an extra conditioning treat. It doesn't get much better then that.
