Fortunately I was able to complete 54, somewhat random, tasks in this challenge and while in earlier articles I discussed a lot of things this challenged uncovered, I won't be so head-heavy in this one. This time, I'm going to reveal 28 tasks I actually accomplished.
On the list:
Mail out an autographed headshot
Someone went to my website after watching the movie, Dark Town, where I play a teenage-turned-vampire-girl named Tisha. It was the first time anyone asked for an autograph from me because of the movie.
Land an audition
I actually landed several, but one was the goal.
Complete another volume of poetry
I took this task as an opportunity to stretch and experiment with my poetry. I think this latest volume is my best volume yet. I've submitted this volume into two poetry competitions so far.
Finish Christmas shopping
This was easy. I made a list and checked it twice.
Land a commercial
I actually landed two. I haven't seen them yet though. As a matter of fact, I haven't even gotten paid for them yet.
Get a check in the mail
I didn't know how in the world this was going to happen, but I put it on the list anyway, inspired by the book The Secret. I actually got two checks in the mail.
Buy another sweater
Once upon a time, I used to have plenty of them, but a sweater monster comes in and eats them all. I ended up buying two cashmere sweaters (from a consignment store called The Red Poppy Boutique) and I love them to death.
Get a loan
This one was tricky. I didn't actually get a loan per se, but I did apply for another credit card and got approved for that, so I counted it.
Get a new computer
I cashed in a CD and purchased an iMac.
Get a camcorder
I'm probably the last person on earth who doesn't have one, but I bought one for my daughter for Christmas. She's the tech-girl.
Read three complete books
I read a book called Winkie. I thought it was the worst book ever written, but I got through it because I was the one who suggested it at my family's book club. I also read two e-books on wealth and finance. E-books totally count!
Receive an award
I had no idea where this was going to come from, until I received the award for my contribution to The G.R.E.E.N. Foundation, a non-profit organization, where I am a board member.
Teach my daughter to meditate
My daughter can be a bit high-strung at times so I felt it was my duty as her mother to equip her with a tool to relax and turn inward to calm her mind and find peace.
Clean my home office
After I took on a second job, right before Christmas, I bought a new desk which increased my work space and allowed me to better organize my office area. I still have a lot of fine tuning to do, but it looks significantly better than it did before.
Read book on documentaries
Yeah, one day I'm going to make a few but in the meantime I'm doing my homework about what it takes to make a good one. I've been reading this one book for years, and though I'm not finished yet, I restarted it again, and I'm now further than I've ever been before.
Buy a new skirt
Went back to The Red Poppy Boutique and picked up a white embroidered skirt. I love it, though I'm afraid to wear it to work, or anywhere else because I don't want to get it dirty.
Have $1000 more in saving
After I received my settlement from a lawsuit I was involved in, this was no problem.
Visit a new restaurant
After filming a debate question for CNN with OC for Darfur, I went out to eat at Rutabegorz in Fullerton with the group. Actually, I may have been at this restaurant once, many years ago, but since I don't remember, I'm counting it.
Pass out 10 business cards
That was no problem. I've done at least 20 since this challenge.
Bake cookies
Sounds like such a small random thing. I know. But I made this list before the holidays and my daughter was begging me to make my famous Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies. I just wanted to make sure it was done.
Create a new recipe
As I have written about it before, my diet is so strange, that sometimes food can get a little boring being so restricted as to what I can eat. So I put this on the list - but instead of making a dish, I created a sauce. Sauces are to dishes what accessories are to clothing.
Write casting directors weekly
There are some great things I'm trying to do in my career and I just need a little attention by a few people who can really make some of it happen for me. This calls for a mountain of great persistence.
Send books to Caila
Caila is the 3-year-old daughter of my best friend. In essence, Caila is my niece. I have had some books to send her for a while now, but it always slips my mind. This time though, I made sure little Cailakins got the books from her auntie.
Pay off three debts completely
It took a little finagling but I managed to pay off a couple of medical bills and credit card.
Develop all disposable cameras
I was on my way to growing a disposable camera farm with all of the cameras I had around the house. Some of them were used years ago. One was seven years old!
Take pictures of all artwork
This wasn't much of a stretch since I'm pretty good about cataloging my art work.
Contact lawyer
Well, I was getting a little antsy about that lawsuit I mentioned earlier. I just needed an update about where we were in the case.
List Hodaoa-Anibo articles
I was hoping that I had enough articles written about the language that I could actually do something with them. Maybe compile them into some sort of book, but unfortunately I don't have enough written.
I won't overwhelm you with any more details, and though I can't call the challenge a complete success, I would encourage everyone to go through it at least once. There is no harm in a surge of productivity, is there? In the meantime, I'm taking a break!
