10/03/10 Day Three of Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Creating Awareness by Sharing-Debbie Dunn's Story
be yourself, a friend, a loved one anyone in your life. I think that by not allowing this disease to be a faceless one more people would stand and join the fight against breast cancer. After all, strength in numbers right? My goal is to share a story a day the whole month. I also said breast cancer awareness shouldn't be a month, but year round, so as long as people's stories are coming in I will share them. I may not even make the story a day, but I hope we can do this together and do a story a day all month at minimum. Sorry this one is a day late, computer wasn't accessible yesterday. So far these are the only two personal stories that came in, so if anyone knows anyone that would like to be part of this awareness project, please pass this on.
Here is Debbie Dunn's story as sent to me via comments:
Jennifer, I have been living with breast cancer since Jan. 7, 2010. I have written many of the things I have learned on my AC page. I have already gone through chemo and a double mastectomy. As far as I know, I am now cancer free. The two preventative measures I am currently doing is 35 days of radiation and taking a low-dosage chemo tablet for 5 years. I have to wait a year after radiation before having reconstruction surgery. Thanks to the power of prayer, a positive attitude, a sense of humor, great doctors, and a great treatment plan, I have done really well. But if I had known enough to catch this early, as you stated, I would probably have been able to save my breasts. Thank you for what you are doing. My goal is for others not to have to go through the extremes of what I have had to go through. God bless you and your readers!
Debbie Dunn has been a writer on AC since Feb. 2009. She writes on a great number of topics, but has some amazing communication and education articles. She has written eight different articles about breast cancer which can be found here:
