100th Day of School Activities for Preschool Children

Michelle S
The 100th day of school has become a milestone day in preschools across the country. Help your preschoolers celebrate the day with these 100th day activities.

Preschool children will love bringing home 100th day necklaces. Give each child a long piece of yarn with the end taped to make a "needle" and help each child count out one hundred pieces of colorful O shaped cereal, such as fruit loops. Having each child make ten piles of ten O's may be helpful. Tie the ends of the finished necklaces together.

Have a series of 100 second activities. See how many times each child can write his name in 100 seconds. Jump up and down for 100 seconds. Be quiet for 100 seconds.

Go outside and let each child guess how far 100 steps will take them. As a class count off steps and see who comes the closest.

Write numbers 1 through 100 on 100 cookies with icing and display them on a large platter. At the end of the day, let each child draw a number of which cookie she will bring home.

Create a collection of 100 items. As homework, ask each child to count out 100 of something with their parents to bring to school in a baggie. Suggest items such as pennies, cotton balls, dried macaroni, or paper clips. At school, let them glue the items in rows of ten onto a poster board. Label each row at 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, and 100.

Read Biscuit's 100th Day of School by Alyssa Satin Capucilli. Preschool children love the playful antics of this lovable puppy.

Let preschoolers show what they know by making lists of 100 things in a category. As a class, list of things such as 100 books or 100 animals.

Teach preschoolers to give by collecting 100 cans of food to give to charity. Or they can donate 100 shirts or 100 pairs of pants that they have outgrown. Or have each child bring 100 pennies to donate to a charity the class chooses as a whole.

Let each child make their own batch of 100th day trail mix for their snack. Let each child count out 10 each of ten small snack foods to put in a plastic baggie. 10 small snack foods I use are: goldfish, pretzels, M&Ms, raisins, peanuts, craisins, Cheerios, chocolate chips, Kix cereal, and almonds or cashews.

Pop 100 kernelsof popcorn and see how many cups can be filled.

Have a 100 minute read-a-thon. Invite different people from around the community to come in and read a book. Include small fingerplays or active songs between each book to work out the wiggles!
