If you ask the kids what their favorite part of the trip was, they will probably tell you it was the hot tub in the suite, lol. While we were walking from place to place, they acted like all they wanted to do was swim around in the pool and hot tub, but once we got to our destination, they quickly got involved. Since we came home, a couple of times a week, they ask me if it is time to go back. I think mostly because for most of 1 week we got to hang out as a family, with no worries, no work and nothing more to do than hang out with my parents. We wandered around Colonial Williamsburg during the day, the kids took turns spending the night with their grandparents next door and just have fun.
We watched historical reenactments, learned about cotton and homespun fabric, and listened to stories of everyday life during Colonial Times. The kids watched demonstrations of home life in the 18th Century and learned about how many of the food we eat today came to America and saw craftsmen prepare wood for things like making tools, to building homes. They even got to make candles!
I love the fact that we can head up to Williamsburg in the middle of September for close to a week and integrate it with homeschool lessons. Hands on learning as a family is just one of the reasons why I homeschool my kids.
You can also check out the slides show of some of the things that we saw while we were there.
