11 Artists Who Should Record James Bond Movie Themes

Wa Conner
11 Artists that have not been tapped to record/perform a James Bond Theme that I think should be considered for future installments in the James Bond film franchise:

Artists were chosen based on consistency, quality, and suitability to the James Bond sound and ethos, as well as not being a citizen of the United States. It is a given that the best James Bond themes are written and performed by artists who are not American.

1) Annie Lennox - You saw what she did for Lord of the Rings. Can you imagine what she could do with a Shirley Basset-esque James Bond tune?

2) Depeche Mode - Perhaps one of the most famous forward looking British band of the 80s. Duran Duran got their chance, how about Depeche Mode? I guarantee you will you get something sexier and more soulful than Duran Duran's "A View to A Kill".

3) The Cure - The other most famous British band from the 80s. You want something reflective? You want something that sounds new and yet brings the past alive? You need Robert Smith. Just look what they did for The Crow, the first one with Brandon Lee. I dare you to listen to "Burn" without grooving.

4) Sting - With Quantum of Solace focusing on the an emerging powerful Green Energy industry and a world with an emerging environmental consciousness, who better to write a track that reflects such values? Sting has been doing it for years.

5) Peter Gabriel - What do Peter Gabriel and James Bond have in common? Exotic locales! We know Agent 007 racks up the travel miles during every adventure. I dare to suggest which artist can more easily weave all of those cultural influences into a mind blowing track.

6) Bjork - If you are looking for something quirky, it doesn't get much more quirky than the Icelandic elf.

7) The Who - Okay granted Keith Moon has been dead for years, but I guarantee that given the right deal you could get the members to work their magic.

8) David Bowie - Like a chameleon and James Bond, David Bowie adapts easily from one musical environment to another. Plus, he has enough Brian Eno collaboration material in his archives for the next ten James Bond film themes.

9) George Michael - Oh sure, he's been the butt of many a joke, no pun intended, but this guy still has the vocal pipes that once had everyone certain that Queen would hire him to fill in for the dearly departed Freddie Mercury.

10) Gary Numan - Perhaps one of the most underrated and unappreciated British musicians around, his Jagged album shows that he still has a lot of life in those compositional fingers of his.

11) Elton John - He's performed songs written especially for just about every other British institution, why not the Bond series of films?
