11 Very Strange Deaths! Bizarre Ways People Have Died!

Kristie Leong M.D.
It's not something we like to think about, but death eventually comes to all of us. In some cases it comes to people in very strange ways! Here are some very strange deaths that have occurred throughout history:

1. Have you ever heard of a plant taking revenge? Well, it happened to a 27 year old male. His friend suggested they do a little "cactus plugging" by shooting a cactus with a shotgun. After trying a small cactus, he tried his skills on a 25 foot tall Saguaro cactus. Unfortunately, after blasting a large hole in the cactus, the cactus fell on him, crushing him to death!

2. Allan Pinkerton, famous for creating the Pinkerton detective agency in the 1800's, died at age 65 after biting his tongue when he slipped on a sidewalk!.This is probably NOT how he would have chosen to leave this world!

3. There's actually a case of a king who ate himself to death! King Adolf Frederick of Sweden who lived in the late 1770's, died at age 61 after eating a large meal followed by 14 servings of his favorite dessert known as semia, a bun filled with marzipan and milk.

4. More recently, in 2005, a 28 year old Korean video game lover died at an internet cafe after playing Starcraft for almost 50 hours straight. Don't let it be said there's no such thing as video game addiction. Sounds like it can even be fatal!

5. In 1981, a 25 year old Dutch woman arrived at the home of a classmate after she was invited to dinner for an intellectual conversation. The conversation must have turned bad because she was killed and eaten by her dinner companion!

6. In 1996, a person was killed when he entered the cage of a tiger at a zoological garden in Calcutta, India, when he entered the cage to put a marigold garland around the tiger's neck.

7. Even celebrities sometimes die strange deaths. The author, Sherwood Anderson, died after developing peritonitis when he swallowed a toothpick at a party!

8. In 1911, the famous Jack Daniel, who founded the Tennessee whiskey company, died of blood poisoning after kicking his safe in anger because he couldn't remember the combination to open it.

9. In 1972, Leslie Harvey, guitarist of Stone the Crows, was electrocuted by his microphone while on stage.

10. In 1943, a critic of Hitler, Alexander Woollcott died on the air after suffering a heart attack while discussing Adolf Hitler.

11. In 1277, Pope John XXI was killed after his scientific laboratory collapsed on him!

I don't think any of these are ways I would have chosen to pass out of this world. Strange deaths, indeed!

This was very interesting! I agree with Sophie. Number 5 was especially bad.

There was a nurse who was taking care of my son in the ER a while back and she said her kid had jumped out of a swing and bit his tongue clean off! I guess that would cause some profuse bleeding?! Luckily they sewed it back on but daggone!

Oh geez - some bad luck here. I had a friend in high school who died when his car was crushed while waiting at a stop light on an Interstate access road. An 18-wheeler on the Interstate overpass wrecked and went off the Interstate and landed on my friend's car. That was pretty bizarre, too.
