12 Grain Bread Review: Country Oven 12 Grain Bread

At the moment I am not regularly getting organic bread. I wish that I could say that I am but the organic breads are not always on sale and some times even the cheapest are as much as three dollars. For this reason I often find myself trying out different inexpensive breads that are not organic. A while back I came across a sale of vegetarian breads that were only five dollars for three loaves. Even though the loaves were not organic I was happy to be getting some that were vegetarian and even happier that the bread had the word vegetarian on the varieties that they offered that did not contain any lard. This saved me a ton of time as I was able to read a quick label instead of reading the ingredients. One of the loaves that was labeled vegetarian and in this sale was Country Oven 12 Grain. Along with the 12 grain bread I also got a loaf of Country Oven Honey Wheat Berry Bread and a loaf of Country Oven Honey & Oat Bread. I was very happy to have gotten three loaves for only five dollars.

Usually I will keep a bread bag of any breads that I decide to write a review on. However in the case of the Country Oven 12 Grain Bread I didn't. This was a little frustrating because I couldn't find the ingredients of the bread anywhere on the internet and that is something that I like to include in my reviews. Luckily the next time that I was in the store the bread was still on that wonderful sale and so I got another bag. I liked the bread enough the first time I was happy to get another loaf of it. If the bread had tasted bad I wouldn't have gotten it again. All in all the Country Oven 12 Grain Bread was actually really good. Even though it was a 12 grain bread it was not overwhelmingly hearty and actually was quite chewy. I used it for peanut butter sandwiches as well as toast and I enjoyed it for both ways. My son who is an avid fan of bread enjoyed this 12 grain bread as well. I was glad that he liked the bread, I would be very disappointed if he refused to consume something as healthy as a 12 grain bread. Now with a second bag on hand I was able to review the ingredients and share them in my review.

The ingredients for the Country Oven 12 Grain Bread are unbleached enriched flour, water, high fructose corn syrup, dried honey, sunflower kernals, cracked wheat, yeast, corn oil, less than two percent of soybean oil, salt, vital wheat gluten, wheat bran, raisin juice concentrate, sodium stearoyl lactylate, monocalcium phosphate, ammonium sulfate, soy flour, calcium sulfate, enzymes, azodicarbonamide, ascorbic acid, calcium peroxide and calcium propionate which is used as a preservative. As for the nutrition facts in one slice of bread there are one hundred and ten calories with twenty five calories from fat. One slice of this bread also contains one gram of sugars as well as one gram of fiber, four grams of protein and nineteen grams of carbohydrates. In the minerals and vitamins section of the nutrition facts it listed calcium with two percent, both folic acid and iron with eight percent and both thiamin and niacin with fifteen percent. I was not particularly upset with the nutrition facts or the ingredients but I wasn't particularly thrilled with them either. Still if on sale I think I would get this bread again and I would recommend for anyone to try Country Oven 12 Grain Bread out.
