12 Things You Will Not See Again in Sports

Mike King
This is my list of 12 things you will not see again in sports. First off let me say one thing. The event had to happen in my lifetime to make my list. In other words, I had to see it happen. I am 23 years old for the record. Enjoy.

TOP 12 THINGS YOU WILL NOT SEE AGAIN IN SPORTS

12- FORTY, FORTY, FORTY- No we aren't talking about 40 yard dashes, 40 naked women, or 40 ounce beers. We are talking about a impressive feat accomplished by Alfonso Soriano. Soriano become the 4th person in major league history to steal forty bases and hit forty home runs. During the 2006 baseball season he became the first and only player to hit forty doubles, along with the the steals and home runs. This accomplishment never did get the respect it should have last year. I respect it, and you should too. It's the only time it's ever been done, and most likely the last.

11-CATCH, RUN, CATCH AND RUN SOME MORE-Willie "Flipper" Anderson of the St. Louis Rams broke the NFL receiving record for one game. In 1989 vs. the New Orleans Saints, on Monday Night football he became the third player in NFL History to amass over 300 receiving yards in one game. He had 336 yards breaking Stephone Paiges' 309 yards in 1985. Thrown in 15 catches and it was one hell of a day that won't be duplicated any time soon for the man they called "Flipper".

10-ISN'T MO RIVERA SUPPOSE TO BE GOOD?-The Red Sox are 3 outs from getting swept out of the playoffs at the hands of there arch rivals the New York Yankees. The best post-season closer in the history of baseball is on the mound...but that doesn't phase even the cursed Red-Sox. They Knock Rivera around and go on to win 4 straight games and win the World Series for the first time in nearly a century. The Red-Sox became the first MLB or NBA team to win a series when they were down 3 games to zero. Simply amazing.

9-WHAT'S A SPRAINED ANKLE TO KERRI STRUG?- In the 96' Olympics Kerri Strug was up last on vault. After shocking spectators, coaches, and fans across the world by falling and injuring her ankle on her first vault, she managed to stick the landing on her second vault before falling to the mat in obvious pain. Her perfect landing and vault helped secure gold for the American team. The perfect landing gave the U.S. women's gymnastics squad its first ever team gold medal. Kerri Strug waved to the crowd and was carried off by the Team USA coach with a wrapped up ankle.

8-YOUNGEST PLAYER EVER TO DO IT- On Jan. 19th, 2005 Lebron James becomes the youngest player in NBA history to record a triple double in a game. He does it against the Portland Trail Blazers at the Rose Garden. He also became the youngest player to win the All-Star MVP award. With the new age restrictions enforced in the NBA it will be next to impossible to beat these two records. Did I mention Lebron did it with a plastic mask on his face? I wonder if that mask went to the hall of fame?

7-WORLD SERIES DELAYED BECAUSE OF A EARTHQUAKE- Just 15 minutes before Game 3 of the World Series between the Giants and Athletics, a massive earthquake, 6.9 on the Richter scale, strikes the San Francisco Bay area. At 5:04 p.m., Candlestick Park shakes for about 15 seconds. The earthquake cuts off power and causes concrete to fall from some sections of the upper deck. Oakland went onto win game 3 ten days later and sweep the Giants in game 4.

6-PLAYERS FIGHT FANS, FANS FIGHT PLAYERS- Of course I am talking about the infamous brawl in Detroit. Ron Artest and Ben Wallace get into it, but Artest walks away. A fan throws a cup and hits Artest in the face causing him to go into the crowd. A near riot breaks out after that, players in the stands, fans on the court. I can never get that picture of J. O'neal laying that big guy out in the Pistons jersey. O'neal got that guy good! Ron Artest gets the biggest suspension in the history of the NBA, 73 games for the incident.

5- RANDY JOHNSON NAILS BIRD WITH FASTBALL- This is the funniest thing I have ever seen, I've watched this at least 1,000 times and I've put it in ultra slow motion. Just think about how hard this is to do in a game, the bird has to be flying in a ball park knee high, the bird has to cross the path of a 97 mph heater right in front of the plate. What are the odds we will ever see feathers flying around like that again? If you picked up a baseball and tried to hit a bird mid-flight you would never hit it, trust me I've tried to nail plenty of seagulls at the beach it can't be done without luck.

4-CANCER COULDN'T STOP LANCE/OR MARIO LEMIEUX- Lance wins his battle with cancer, then wins the battle of the Tour De France. Not only did he win just one Tour he went onto win every single one since his first in 1999. That is 7 years in a row, can this be done by someone else in our lifetime again? I don't think so, it will take at least 7 years to find out, that is for sure! Super Mario survived a bout with Hodgkin's disease in 1993, winning a scoring title despite missing a month of the season for cancer treatments. Before that, he couldn't play for two-thirds of the Penguins' 1990-91 Stanley Cup championship season because of a rare bone disease that occurred following back surgery.

3-CAL RIPKEN IS THE NEW IRONMAN- Cal Ripken Jr. breaks the unbeatable iron manrecord of consecutive games played. He plays in over 2,000 games straight to beat Lou Gehrig's record. I cannot ever see this record being broke ever, just can't see it....By the way another Cal moment, remember those two home runs in his final all-star game? Another moment from him.

2-MIKE TYSON BITES HOLYFIELD, THEN BITES HIM AGAIN- Okay we all remember this, in fact I was watching this on PPV and couldn't believe a guy would bite another fighter in a heavyweight fight. It gets better he gets tied up with Holyfield and he bites a piece of his ear off after he bites him earlier. That's two bites in one fight. They had to find Holyfields ear so they could sew the part bitten off back on! I am pretty sure we won't see somebody bite another fighter twice in the same fight and chew a piece of his ear off in the process. Will this ever happen again? I doubt it but Mike Tyson still fights from time to time so there is always a chance. Watch Mike Tyson eat dinner in the round 3 video in case you forgot it, just click the link!

1-CRAZY FAN, TENNIS MATCH, KNIFE- In 1993 in Germany 19 year old Monica Seles of the United State was on top of the world. In fact she was ranked the #1 Womens tennis player in the world. She was in a quarterfinals match and they were in between sets when she resting on a bench. A angry fan leaned over the railing and stabbed Seles in the back with a 10 inch knife. Seles let out a scream, clutched her back and stumbled on to the court. This caused her to miss significant time and it got into her head and she was never the same player.
