12.1 Megapixel Fuji FinePix F60fd Digital Camera: An Inexpensive Point and Shoot

JW Price
Fuji's FinePix line includes some of the most popular point and shoot digital cameras on the market today. When you combine that with the performance found in the FinePix F60fd you have a top selling camera. This camera which was released in February of this year is one of their ultracompact offerings. I have been lucky enough to get my hands on one of these cameras and I'm going to let you know how it performs.

Product Raitings:

Durability: 5/5

Product Details and Features:

What first grabs your attention with this digital camera is the black all metal design and large 3 inch LCD screen. This digital camera measures 2.3 inches high by 3.6 inches wide and isn't even 1 inch thick. Despite the case being constructed exclusively of metal this camera is only 6.4 ounces. It certainly looks more impressive than some of the other budget level point and shoot models.

The controls are fairly easy to use and intuitive. Unfortunately the large screen takes up the majority of the space on the rear of the camera so the buttons and dial are both quite small so people with large fingers beware! There aren't a tremendous amount of options on this camera but all of the usual suspects are present: Macro, night shooting, portrait, and landscape.

This camera has an impressive 12 megapixel sensor which elevates it above and beyond most point and shoot cameras in its price range. Unfortunately in anything but the most brightly lit shot there is often a considerable amount of noise in this digital camera's photos. Night shots and soft light shots aren't even printable. The speed of the camera is also an unfortunate issue. If you need a camera to shoot sporting events you may want to consider looking else where especially if you intend to utilize the flash.

Value:

Since this camera will be approaching a year old around Christmas time I would expect some considerable price reductions thanks to the softening economy. Currently this digital camera can be found at electronics stores as well as online for about $200, which is actually a pretty good deal. This camera would be a steal if it ever approaches $150. Imagine, a 12 megapixel camera from a major manufacturer at $150, we might see it with this one. If you're looking for something very small to carry around and aren't interested it professional quality the FinePix F60fd is probably a very good option for you.
