13 Great Halloween Rock Songs

Aida Ekberg
If you're looking for some great Halloween songs, check out this list of 25 Halloween Songs perfect for a party (you'll find a few extra rock songs by the likes of Marilyn Manson, The Rolling Stones, and Alice Cooper on that list). But if you're looking for slightly more original fare, try a few of the 13 rock songs here that guests may find more surprising choices than the usual Monster Mash and Thriller:

Dragula by Rob Zombie - Rob Zombie has plenty of dark rock songs with a Halloween feel to them, but none are more famous than Dragula. Burning witches and digging ditches, Dragula sounds a bit more hardcore than the vampire with a similar name. And just in case you're wondering where the name came from, there was a drag racer in an episode of 'The Munsters' called "DRAG-U-LA".

Highway to Hell by AC/DC - And this song would be perfectly paired with the one above. AC/DC has a few dark songs that would be perfect for Halloween, but this one is my favorite. However, you can throw in Hells Bells along with it as a bonus track.

Hungry Like the Wolf by Duran Duran - There are a few great wolf rock songs on the list of 25 Halloween Songs, but none have the 80's flare that this synthesized masterpiece does.

Riders on the Storm by The Doors - This dark Doors song definitely sounds like the beginning of a horror story with the sound of a thunderstorm in the background. It's one of the spookiest and most mysterious songs on this list, and one that's perfect for creating a dark mood for the portion of your Halloween party where you try to scare everyone.

Bad Moon Rising by Creedence Clearwater Revival - Despite this song's upbeat feel, it's perfect for a moonlit outdoors party on Halloween night.

Enter Sandman by Metallica - This is one of Metallica's darkest songs, and one that turns the Sandman into a real Halloween-style monster.

Strange Brew by Cream - This is one of the grooviest songs on this list, and it's got a great smooth and sensual sound. It's the perfect Halloween song for dancing to with your favorite witch at your Halloween party.

The Invisible Man by Queen - I love this demented song by Queen, and it's theatrical feel definitely reminds me of some of the great classic Halloween movies. Plus the Invisible Man is one of the great classic horror movie monsters, even if he's not the invisible man this song is talking about.

Love Potion No. 9 by The Searchers - Fix up a big witch's cauldron full of your own love potion for your Halloween party and be prepared to be intoxicated with that mysterious masked man or masked woman.

Evil Ways by Santana - Well, you might want to hold onto your evil ways for the Halloween party, but after that, you've got to shed that witch's clothing.

In the Midnight Hour by Wilson Pickett - This is a great song for celebrating midnight

at your party on Halloween. As an added plus, it's one of the greatest classic songs ever.

Voodoo Chile by Jimi Hendrix - Add a little voodoo to your Halloween party with some of Jimi's mystical and magical guitar work.

Spooky by Classics IV - This is one of the best songs for dedicating to your "spooky" little girl at your Halloween party, and it's especially good if you're planning to propose to her on Halloween (hey, it's more unique than Valentine's Day).

A few other good songs that almost made the list are Van Morrison's 'Moondance' and ELO's Strange Magic, which I'd also highly recommend.

After so many Halloweens of hearing it, guests might appreciate a Monster Mash-free Halloween playlist, so I hope some of these great songs make your Halloween party a rockin' one long past midnight.
