Valentine's Day Hearts for Breakfast
1. Pancakes
Set your metal heart-shaped cookie cutter on the griddle and pour your pancake batter inside. When the batter begins to set, lift up the cookie cutter and flip the pancake. For added holiday flair, add red food coloring to the pancake batter before cooking. Better yet, follow the advice of Jessica Seinfeld in her book Deceptively Delicious. She adds pureed beets to pancake batter to create healthy, naturally pink pancakes.
2. French Toast
Prepare French Toast as usual, but press heart shapes out of the finished product. Kids will enjoy both the hearts and the heart-shaped holes in the French toast. Serve it with something red, like raspberries or strawberries, and a sprinkling of powdered sugar.
3. Eggs and Toast (aka "Egg-in-the-Hole")
Butter a slice of bread on both sides, and then press out a heart shape. Place both the heart and the bread-with-a-hole on a medium-hot griddle. Place a little dab of butter in the bread's heart-shaped hole, then crack an egg in it. You can break the yoke, and then flip the whole thing when it's ready. Remember to flip the little heart, too, which should be toasting up nicely. This was a favorite of mine when I was a kid.
Valentine's Day Hearts for Lunch
4. Sandwiches
Prepare your kids' favorite sandwich, and then cut out a heart shape. Kids are notorious for turning their noses up at crusts, so they'll enjoy their special tea party finger sandwich. Moms are notorious for eating said crusts (at least I am), so help yourself or toss them outside for the birds.
5. Pizza
There are a couple of great ways to create a heart-shaped pizza. You can simply cut individual heart shapes from regular square pizza slices. Or if you'd prefer an entire pizza shaped like a giant Valentine heart, buy or make pizza dough and get creative forming it into a heart.
Valentine's Day Hearts for Snacks
6. Dried Fruit
With a sharp knife, cut dried apricots, pears or apples into the shape of a heart. What a fun and healthy snack!
7. Cheese
Press your cookie-cutter into slices of cheese for a high protein, high calcium Valentine's Day snack.
8. Finger Jello
Prepare red finger Jell-O according to the directions on the package. Use that favorite cookie cutter to create jiggly, red hearts.
9. Hot Pretzels
Make homemade pretzels, but shape them into hearts instead of the traditional twist. Add a little red food coloring to the dough for a festive touch.
10. Red Pepper and Cream Cheese Crackers
Slice a red pepper into thin strips. Cut the strips in half so that each strip has one curved end and one straight end. Spread a cracker with cream cheese and carefully arrange two red pepper strips into the shape of a heart. Healthy and festive!
Valentine's Day Hearts for Dinner
11. Pasta and Sauce
Cook lasagna noodles, then use a small heart-shaped cookie cutter to press out cute little shapes for the kids. Serve them with a side of red spaghetti dipping sauce and a sprinkling of Parmesan cheese. Your kids will enjoy this simple Valentine's Day version of pasta.
12. Chicken Pot Pie or Chicken 'n Biscuits
Prepare your favorite chicken pot pie recipe. Instead of covering the entire pie with crust, press out heart shapes and arrange them on top of the pot pie before baking it in the oven. If your kids prefer chicken 'n biscuits, prepare biscuits shaped like little hearts. An everyday dinner can be made fun and special for Valentine's Day.
Valentine's Day Hearts for Dessert
13. Rice Krispie Squares
Prepare this family favorite, but toss in a few red hot candies for Valentine's flair. Use your cookie cutter to shape the Rice Krispie Squares into hearts.
14. Brownies
Any ordinary pan of brownies can become extraordinary with that trusty heart-shaped cookie cutter. Top each one with a lovingly selected conversation heart for a personal touch.
So, go a little heart-crazy this Valentine's Day. Surprise your kids with 14 Valentine's Day treats.

Post a CommentVery cute ideas :)
Fun ideas.
These are great ideas! We love egg-in-a-hole here too! :)
lol, if I could get my son to eat the first 3 when he's here that would be an accomplishment in itself! Gotta be waffles and cereal.
I love the pasta idea :) That is unique .... I may have to do that. Sounds like a romantic way to enjoy dinner too :)
P.S. I forgot to note that you simply started with a cookie cutter and then came up with such a wide variety of ideas!
I really can get into this theme, making or buying heart-shaped foods. I like this quite a bit!
maybe you can convince jen to do some of these for me on v-time day.
Funny, my comment just disappeared. Anyways, these are all great ideas for heart shaped foods for Valentine's Day that would even make fun food to serve any day. My oldest used to love having her sandwiches cut into shapes for her lunchbox, and I still do it for my second daughter as well for her school lunches. I particularly liked the heart shaped dough for the crust on a pot pie idea in your article. Yummy ideas, thanks for sharing.
I love these ideas as a matter of fact we do those heart shaped pancakes sometimes just for the fun of it...Cheers
