14 Tips to Make Spring Cleaning Your Dining Room a Breeze

1. Clean your blinds and wash curtains. Depending on how dirty your blinds are, you can simply use a Swiffer dusting cloth, vacuum or use a damp cloth if they are very dusty. Check the care tags on your curtains to see if you can wash them in your washing machine. If your curtains are delicate, take them to the dry cleaner.

2. Clean windows inside and out with Windex or vinegar and water. To make your own environmentally friendly window clear mix 16 ozs of water, 2 ozs of white vinegar and a few drops of dish soap in a clean spray bottle. This solution is very cheap and easy to make yourself. A micofiber cloth or crumpled up newspaper works best for cleaning glass. Paper towels can leave streaks.

3. Clean any window screens. To easily clean your screens make a solution of 24 ozs water, 8 ozs of ammonia and ½ tablespoon dish soap in a clean spay bottle. Spray this solution on screens and let sit for 5-10 minutes. Next use a clean broom or soft scrub brush on both sides of the screen to remove dirt. Hose off and let dry.

4. Clean all baseboards in your dining area. Easily clean baseboards with a damp rag. Be sure to keep your rag clean by frequently rinsing in clean water. The baseboards always accumulate so much dust.

5. Dust fan or light fixture. Use a Swiffer duster with extendable handle to make this job quick and easy.

6. Spot clean chair cushions. Resolve multi-fabric works great on most fabric surfaces. If you want to update the look of your chairs, get inexpensive covers at Bed Bath and Beyond or Walmart.

7. Clean the carpet or area rug in the dining room. If you do not own your own carpet cleaner, you can rent one at Lowes or Home Depot. Bissell makes wonderful carper cleaning solutions. Many carpet cleaning companies offer spring cleaning specials if you would rather not tackle the job yourself.

9. Clean the dining table thoroughly. If it's a wood table, Murphy's oil soap works great. If you have a glass dining tables clean on both sides. Have someone help you flip the glass to clean on each sides. Don't forget to clean the base or legs of your table.

10. Wash your walls if you have semi-gloss or glossy paint. Flat paint usually does not clean well. Consider using touch up paint if you cannot safely wash

11. Clean all light switch plates with Clorox disinfecting wipes or a damp cloth.

12. Dust air vents with a Swiffer duster with extendable handle.

13. Replace any burnt out light bulbs in your dining room chandelier. You may consider switching to Energy Star eco-friendly compact fluorescent light bulbs. These lights bulbs will not only save you money, they are also much cooler to be under.

14. Remove all dust and cob webs from the ceiling and corners. You can use a specially designed cobweb duster or use a Swiffer duster with extendable handle. You can also use a clean broom to get all of the cobwebs down.
