"Christmas in Hollis" by Run-D.M.C. - If you're hoping Santa will bring you an old school pair of Adidas for Christmas this year, then this is one of the hip hop songs you've got to add to your holiday playlist. Some of the founding fathers of hip hop offer up a holiday fairytale full of carols, collard greens, and cash, courtesy of Santa Claus (if only we could all spend our Christmases chillin' with a cool million).
"Santa Claus Goes Straight to the Ghetto" by Snoop Dogg - Forget Snoopy; Snoop's got the real Christmas classic with another of the holiday's best hip hop songs. Sure there's references to how making Christmas happen for kids in the ghetto can be hard, but Snoop also celebrates the good side of the holiday, including a pimp cup full of eggnog, his homeboy's special gifts, and even discovering that Santa isn't the real deal (if he was, kids in the ghetto wouldn't get such a raw deal on Christmas day).
"Santa Baby" by Run-D.M.C. featuring Puff Daddy, Ma$e, Salt N Pepa, Snoop Dogg, and more - And here's one of the most star-studded Christmas hip hop songs for celebrating the season, as a slew of hip hop's greatest team up to bring us an even naughtier (and darker) version of Eartha Kitt's classic. It seems like the best gift from Kris Kringle would be to make everyone's pockets jingle, but this song displays how the hard-up really spend the holidays.
"Merry Mutha****in' Xmas" by Eazy-E - Of course it's important to keep in mind that these hip hop Christmas songs aren't for everyone. This rap includes merry machine gun fire; a wreath made from reefer; and other forms of jolly Christmas joy that I can't mention here. But if you can handle some hardcore holiday humor and language that would make the jolly old elf blush, this one is definitely worth checking out.
"Christmas Rappin" by Kurtis Blow - And here's one of the best old school hip hop Christmas songs, a classic flow featuring a nostalgic sound that will take you way back as Kurtis Blow lays his yuletide rhymes down. So if you're needing to get into a fast rhythm while doing your Christmas wrapping, this rap will help make it happen.
"Ludacrismas" by Ludacris - Ludacris celebrates Christmas in a very special way: by turning it into his own holiday. So what does he want for Christmas in one of hottest holiday hip hop songs? According to him, all he wants for Christmas is two gold front teeth (fortunately, he won't have to rely on an elf; he's got plenty of Christmas green to buy them for himself).
"Sleigh Ride" by TLC - And here's one of the best hip hop Christmas songs by the ladies, as TLC brings a little more cheer to your year with their fresh take on a sleigh ride (this is definitely one of the few family-friendly songs on this list).
"What You Want for Christmas" by 69 Boyz featuring Quad City DJ's - The guys with the perfect sweet treats for stocking stuffing take their Tootsee Roll to the North Pole with this fast-pace track. So if you're looking for Christmas hip hop songs that fit the hectic pace of the holiday, check out this rap and see what the not-so-good boyz and girls want under their Christmas trees.
"Yuletown Throwdown (Rapture)" by Blondie and Fab 5 Freddie - In another old school classic, a disco diva teams up with one of the founding fathers of hip hop to bring us another of the best holiday hip hop songs of yesteryear for spreading yuletide cheer.
"Sleigh Ride" by The Ying Yang Twins - And here's another modern hip hop version of one of everyone's favorite classic Christmas songs. It's a lot of fun, but the twins don't carry a tune quite as well as TLC (however, if you can't get enough of their hilarious holiday tunes, they've actually got a whole album full of Christmas songs).
"Dipset Xmas Time" by Jim Jones - Jim Jones' Christmas jingle isn't about hearing sleigh bells; it's all about ballin' and getting jolly for a Christmas party (which is a great place to play this song, provided that the kids are in bed with visions of videogames dancing through their heads).
"Christmas Is" by Run-D.M.C. - And here's one of the best holiday hip hop songs with a moving Christmas message: don't be like the Grinch, all greedy and mean, and help make the Christmas of others bright by giving up the green.
"A Pimp's Christmas Song" by Snoop Dogg - Snoop Dogg brings us another of the best hip hop Christmas songs, straight from the Dogg house. So make sure you pimp out your sleigh before cruising around, looking for Christmas lights, and listening to songs like this for a laid back holiday.
"Ghetto Santa" by Spyder-D - Santa returns to the Ghetto once more in Spyder-D's tune about a St. Nick that might just help you pay your bills, find a new lover, and do your dirty dishes, as long as you leave him some eggnog instead of milk and cookies (I love the reference to Thundercats, Barbies, and G.I. Joes; much better Christmas gifts than boring old clothes).
"Xmas Rap" by Treacherous Three featuring Doug E. Fresh - And here's another of the holiday hip hop songs that references G.I. Joe (well, here he's just a G.I. jerk), as the Treacherous Three criticize Santa's shoddy holiday work. And if you're getting gifts ready while listening to this holiday rap, just remember that there are those out there with no presents to wrap.
So sure you might land on Santa's naughty list for some of these Christmas hip hop songs (but you can't tell me he can resist singing along).
