I love most of his quotes. Also I know one from book: "Slaughterhouse-Five" - "No art is possible without a dance with death."
I remember that he didn't want to use a computer to do his writing because this would put his assistant out of a job.. Kind man! Thanks for this great article!
I don't remember where I read it, perhaps in one of his novels, but someone was complaining about how messy his office was, and he said in response something like, "If you think this office is messy, you should see it in here," while tapping his forehead. Does anyone remember that from anywhere? He might've been describing his brother, now that I think about it.
Also, I remember in the beginning of Slapstick, he said the world needs less love and more common decency, and that we all should do more rolling around on the floor with dogs. I agree.
"What should young people do with their lives today? Many things, obviously. But the most daring thing is to create stable communities in which the terrible disease of loneliness can be cured." That is my favorite quote from the list. Good job.
I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.
Kurt Vonnegut
I could read 150 of these
You forgot one! Those are great, but my all-time favorite is:
"Vietnam was an exercise in mistaken idealism; Iraq in cynical money-making. And there's no optimism or idealism now -- Americans are tired of knowledge. Our leaders, the C-students from Yale, know this. We're proud of being ignorant; that leaves virtue at our core. We aren't frazzled by knowledge like foreigners, so we can be trusted."
I love this!! The one about that the high school class is wonderful and SOOOO true. I always love the one about responses to frustration and exhaustion. I will be using these in my email signature :) Great article!
These are great. He was a fabulous man and author.
