15 Bible Verses About God's Righteousness

Jedley Manimtim
If someone were to ask you about God's righteousness, what is the first thing that would come to mind? In Scripture, God's righteousness is almost always coupled with justice. God is a righteous God, therefore, because of his enacting of justice, establishing of justice, and desire for it. These Bible verses about God's righteousness are taken from the Old Testament. Interestingly, in the New Testament, Bible verses about righteousness predominantly focus on the righteousness of mankind made available through Jesus Christ. While emphasis is fittingly prescribed to the righteousness imputed or declared (there is scholarly debate over which) upon humans in relation to the righteous God, too often we forget the manner in which righteousness -God's righteousness, more specifically - is attested in the Old Testament. Righteousness and justice are inseparable.

Please keep in mind that these Bible verses about God's righteousness are singled out and removed from their original context. In doing so, I am not advocating that we neglect thorough, exegetical study. Nevertheless, there is beauty in the simplicity of God's righteousness and yearning for justice as depicted in the following verses. With all that said, here are 15 Bible verses about God's righteousness, all of which can be used for future study or reference (for Bible verses about justice, click here).

Isaiah 42:5-7
5 This is what God the LORD says- he who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and all that comes out of it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it: 6 "I, the LORD, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. But my salvation will last forever.

We CAN boast -- but only if we can say we know and understand the Lord. Thanks for this, Jedley.
