15 Gift Ideas for the Writer in Your Circle of Friends or Family
Christmas, Birthday or Other Special Occasion Gift Suggestion for Any Budget.
PriceRange $1.00 - $25.00
Office Supplies - Pencils, Paper, Erasers and Highlighters.
This is a great Gift Idea for kids to give or receive. It may be cheap, but believe me Writers always run out of Office Supplies. I have no Idea how often I have been out of those few Items and it never fails I am always in the middle of a Project. If you want to make it look Special you can go to any Place that sells little decorative Boxes or Baskets, put Tissue Paper attractively on the bottom, and then fill it up with a variety of little odds and ends. Wrap it up with colored Cellophane Wrap and you have a useful, thoughtful and eye-catching Gift that you can give to anyone without being embarrassed.
A Gift card to a Bookstore, Starbucks or "Kinko's"
A smart Writer knows the importance of reading and constantly educating them-selves. There are thousands of great Books that a Writer might find useful as an edition to their Learning and Reference Library. Writers Markets, Dictionary etc.
Starbucks is one of my favorite Coffee places and often I write some of my best Articles on Sunday mornings while having a cup of Coffee in this relaxed Atmosphere. Is "your" Writer a coffee drinker, you might want to consider a Gift Card to this or any other Coffee House.
Kinko's or any similar Copying and Printing Company will always come in handy. By giving a Gift Card to one of these Companies you will help with some of the constant costs like Copies, Business Cards etc.
PriceRange $26.00 - $50.00
A Subscription to an online Freelance Writers Website
To find an assignment means you have to spend money at times. Online Memberships to sites like: www.writersmarket.com ($3.99 monthly or $29.99 for one Year), www.gofreelance.com ($29.99 monthly) help find assignments. By purchasing one of these Memberships you are showing your support for their chosen career.
A Website Domain and Hosting Package for a Year!
To be able to make it these days you need to have a public Profile. If he or she is looking into setting up a Website, why not give them gift of their own public "Shingle". A Domain and Hosting Package can easily be arranged and you can get a basic Package at Godaddy.com for under $50.00. Just call one of their Representatives and explain to them what you are trying to do. They will be glad to work with you.
A Roll of Stamps
If you are planning on sending out Query Letters and Manuscripts you need Stamps and plenty of them. Even in these days the Postal Service is the main source of submissions to traditional Magazine, Book or Newspaper Editors. With the ever increasing cost of Postal Stamps a Roll of Stamps (100 pieces) comes in handy!
Publicity Aids
If they already have a Website, why not help by purchasing Items that can help to publicizes them. http://www.pensrus.com Lets you purchase personalized Pens and more with their Name on it. They offer a Wide Varity of Styles and it is a nice way for them to get their name out.
A new Briefcase
How about a nice new Briefcase? A nice Leather Briefcase gives anyone the Aura of Success and Professionalism.
Ink for the Printer
Another thing you constantly seem to run out of is Ink for the Printer. A couple of Cartridges of Ink (one black and white and one color) can come in very handy.
PriceRange $50 - $100
Writers Software
If your Writer works mainly on the Computer, Writers Software is a nice Gift. I personally am hoping to purchase: Creative Writing Software from www.whitesmoke.com (if you choose to purchase a professional Writing Software from them use the Coupon Code 3030). You are looking from $70.00 after the code on up.
Dramatica Pro (around $99.00 and up) or Writers Blocks are both good Soft Ware Ideas as well.
A Vendors Membership to Guru
Again this is great for a Freelance Writer. www.Guru.com is a fantastic place to find higher prices Writing Assignments. It has one Catch however, in order to be able to bid on most of them you have to be at least a Vendor. Membership starts at $99.00 for a Year.
A Membership to a Writers Guild
Depending on which Genre of Writing they are engaged in, a Membership to the appropriate Writers Organization can help them reach the next level. However most of us starting out just don't have that kind of money. Some annual Membership Dues start at $75.00 for a whole Year. What a thoughtful gift.
PriceRange $100 - $200
A new Printer or Scanner
Really any kind of Computer or Office Equipment that can help to make the job easier. The less a Writer has to be worried about anything besides writing the better off they are. A Piece of Equipment that works well without any kinks comes in very handy.
A Writers Get Away
A Weekend away or a Week away to a nice Place where there is nothing but relaxation and time to write is a wonderful Idea. I personally would love to be able to spend a Weekend near the Ocean. Just to sit or walk on the Beach and Write. Away from the big City live, somewhere out in Nature. A Change of Scenery is a great way to relax and get the creative juices flowing again.
A Visa or Master Card Gift Card
It may not sound very original, but a larger Gift Card with a note that states to use it for "Writers Aid Projects" or to Pamper them-selves makes it a great Gift. Put a nice Statement like I believe in you or a down payment to all the autographed Books I will have to buy from you later can make this a very loving gift. This is especially great for a Writer just staring out or struggling. Sometimes, just having the Pressure taking off for once is a nice thought for someone just starting out. Don't be offended if you find out it is used for Gas, Groceries or Bills. The Point is that give a hand up without giving a hand out.
Price Range $200 and up.
A Laptop
Give the gift of electronic Mobility. Being able to write at anytime to be completely mobile can make a big difference for a Writer. You can go anywhere and still take your Assignments, therefore being able to have a life and still make a living.
A Writer on Fire, with a passion for Writing will appreciate any gift that will enable them to follow that Passion. That will show that you cheer them on and don't just see it as a hobby. One extremely important Rule to remember is that one of them most important thing a Writer needs to succeed is a Circle of Support around them. You can show that support by picking Gifts that say out loud: "I believe in you and I am proud of you!"
