15 Races a Year - Come on Brian France, NASCAR Fans Deserve Better

Jacob Horn
I just read this article on NASCAR.com (http://www.nascar.com/2010/news/features/02/09/bfrance.trying.times/index.html) regarding NASCAR''s main man Brian France. (Not important but I believe the article actually originated here at TSN). Moving forward. The article mentions that France, let me say again, THE CEO of NASCAR, only goes to 15-18 races per year. For non-racing fans, there are 36 races. So a little quick math shows that he only goes to approximately half of the races each year.

Are you kidding me?

He has his excuses but something is wrong there. When you are the CEO how do you not make every race on the schedule? I firmly believe it is his job and duty to be at every race. He can talk about all the other things he does but come one now, show up on Sunday and the occassional Saturday. Maybe if he showed up more than half the time he would have been able to come up with a solution to fix declining attendance and faltering television ratings. I just do not understand it. I don't know if his wife is high maintenance or if he adheres very strictly to the Sabbath but if I was an employee of NASCAR, a driver, or sponsor, and more importantly a fan I would demand to know why this man is not at almost every single race. I can understand 3 or 4 absences a year for emergencies and such but not 18+. It is inexcusable.

My husband, Bill and I, have been Nascar fans from the start. We watched the exceptionally long Daytona 500 today. We object to so many previews of shows or movies to come and all the rediculous commercials. We want to see racing - not learn about what movie will be seen when or commerials. Give us commercial free racing on TV. It's what we all crave. This running two laps and then have 5 or 6 commercials is enough to make us puke and to turn the TV off. Suggest you find some other way to earn money rather than subject your TV fans to commercials. We see enough of them during other programs. But racing should be racing and nothing else. Thank you.
