15 Reasons Why Brett Favre is Not the Greatest QB of All Time

Joe Dorish
Brett Favre was a great football player and quarterback. He was a true warrior starting 298 consecutive games in the regular season and 322 total games in a row counting the playoffs and Super Bowl.

Favre played for 20 seasons and holds most longevity passing stats records including most yards, most TD's and most interceptions by a QB. But despite his longevity and passing records Brett Favre cannot be considered the greatest quarterback in NFL history.

Here are 15 reasons why Brett Favre is not the greatest QB of all time

1. Brett Favre only won one Super Bowl in 20 years.

2. John Elway and the Denver Broncos beat Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers as 13 point underdogs in Super Bowl XXXII.

3. Bart Starr, Bob Griese, Terry Bradshaw, Roger Staubach, Jim Plunklett, Joe Montana, Troy Aikman, John Elway, Tom Brady and Ben Roethilsberger have all won at least 2 Super Bowls or at least 1 more than Brett Favre.

4. Brett Favre was 2-3 in NFC Championship Games.

5. 62 quarterbacks in NFL history threw for more yards per attempt in their careers.

6. 193 NFL quarterbacks have thrown for more yards per completion than Brett Favre.

7. 16 QB's currently have a higher completion percentage than Brett Favre's 62%.

8. 52 NFL quarterbacks have a higher passing TD % than Brett Favre's 5.0%.

9. 56 QB's have a better Interception percentage than Favre's 3.3%.

10. 19 quarterbacks in NFL history have a higher QB passer rating than Favre's 86.

11. Brett Favre never led the NFL in passer rating for a season.

12. Favre never led the NFL in passing yards per game in a season.

13. Favre never led the NFL in yards per attempt or yards per completion in a season.

14. In the playoffs Brett Favre's teams were just 13-11.

15. Brett Favre's last two passes in NFC Championships games were both interceptions that ultimately lost the games for his teams.

His interception in OT vs the New York Giants in 2007 set up their game winning field goal. His late 4th quarter interception vs the New Orleans Saints cost the Minnesota Vikings a chance to kick a game winning field goal. The Saints got the OT kickoff and drove for the game winning field goal.

In both cases the teams that beat Brett Favre, the New York Giants and the New Orleans Saints went on to post victories in the Super Bowl as decided underdogs.

Favre is far from the winningest QB ever. His winning percentage in the regular season and playoffs is .619. John Elway is .643. Joe Montana is .711. Roger Staubach is .733. Tom Brady is .766. Just to name a few. Adrian Peterson and Randy Moss will be in the HOF most likely. How did Favre do against the Giants in that cold weather NFC Championship game? I'm not knocking him just asking. Add it all up and he just was not the greatest QB of all time. He's right there in the mix but just not Numero Uno.

Jack, I don't hate Brett Favre or blame him for anything. Did you read the first two sentences of this article? He was a top 5 all time QB but he was not the best ever. That's what I said in this article and that's all I said.

Joey, it doesn't matter if this Favre haters list is wrong. He doesn't care. He doesn't understand that a QB is only as good as team that surrounds him. Name one HOF receiver Brett has played with Sterling Sharpe maybe. For that matter, except for Reggie, name another actual HOF player Brett played with. Montana 15; Elway 16; Bradshaw 11; Star 13; Staubach 11; Aikman 7. Brett is the winningest QB of all time. He was the first QB to 70,000 yards, throw over 500 TD, over 300 INTs, most completions, attempts, three MVP's and could have had three others in his career. I would just say this - because it is impossible to pick just one QB as the best of all time, I'd say Brett is one of the best of all time. Brett didn't play in a dome or 70 degree weather, he played at Lambeau in some of the worst conditions ever. You ever throw a ball in 30 below weather after playing for four hours. I don't remember Manning, Montana, maybe Elway, etc. ever doing this

Favre was part of a short passing game for years in Green Bay. Why do 16 QB's have a higher completion percentage?

  • Joe Dorish1/26/2011

Another dumb comment. I'm not blaming Favre for anything. The facts are what they are. He was a great QB but add up everything on this list and he was not the greatest QB in history.

  • Tom1/26/2011

What an ignorant list. Judging a qb by the performance of his team is unfair. And average yds per completion? Favre played for Packer teams that used a short passing offense for years, and you're going to blame him?

  • Joe Dorish1/26/2011

Everything on the list is 100% accurate joey. Don't leave dumb comments it only makes you look stupid.
