15 Useful Things to Do with Vodka (Besides Drinking)

Lucy Tonic

I like my vodka plain, preferably chased with orange juice or ice-water. But there are plenty of other surprising uses for this type of alcohol.

So, if you happen to have a spare container or bottle of vodka with not much left in it to drink, don't throw it away. Here are fifteen other things to use vodka for. (I recommend using non-flavored).

1. Wine Stains

Put the vodka into some sort of spray-bottle device. Scrub the stain till it dissipates, then blot dry with a paper towel.

2. Toothache

Swish vodka around your mouth like mouthwash, making sure to cover the wounded tooth. Numbness from pain should follow.

3. Remove Band-Aids Wince Free

Soak a thick paper-towel or cloth with vodka, and press onto the bandage. Or just pour directly on the bandage. Vodka helps destroy the sticky adhesive.

4. Save Money on Razors

Fill a cup with vodka and soak your razors to prolong their lifespan and disinfect.

5. Foot Odor

Pour vodka into a basin and have fresh-smelling feet.

6. Jellyfish Sting

Pour vodka onto a cloth or directly onto the sting. The vodka will alleviate pain.

7. Clean Caulking

Fill a spray bottle with vodka, preferably something with a Windex-like aim. Spray caulking around a bathtub or sink. Wait five minutes, then wipe off the mold and mildew.

8. Tighten Pores

Dab a cotton ball with vodka and press on affected facial areas for tighter pores and an overall clean face.

9. Clean Glasses

Dab vodka onto soft toilet paper or cloth to clean eyeglasses and kill germs.

10. Kill Bees

I don't advocate killing anything, but if you're in danger of being overly stung by wasps or bees, fill a trigger spray-bottle with vodka and shoot away if you must (the vodka kills them).

11. Clean Hair, Kill Bugs

Add 1 ½ ounces of vodka to a 12-ounce shampoo bottle to remove toxins, clean scalp and promote healthy hair growth. Wash with straight vodka to get rid of nit-bugs.

12. Natural Pain-Killer

For a natural at-home remedy for aches and pains, clean out an old mayonnaise jar and pack it with fresh lavender flowers. Fill it with vodka, seal the lid, and let it sit for three days in the sun, then apply a small amount of the mixture to pained areas.

13. Alleviate Fever

Pour vodka on soft washcloth, and rub upon back and chest.

14. Ice Pack

Get a Ziploc freezer-bag, and full with ½ cup water and ½ cup vodka. Use as an ice pack, or use to make a frozen drink.

15. Poison Ivy

Pour vodka on cloth or straight onto area with the poison ivy. The vodka removes the urushiol oil.
