16 Tips to Help Sooth a Crying Baby

Crying is one of the ways that a baby communicates to the world and expresses emotions. Babies are unable to use words and have to rely on crying to communicate. There are many reasons for a baby to cry like being uncomfortable. Most babies will cry when hungry, wet, feeling cold or hot and when sick. Also, some babies will cry out of habit. A crying baby can be frustrating for first time parents or any other family members. Parents should take the crying serious by the baby because there could be many reasons for the baby crying.

I am going to share some helpful tips on how to deal with a crying baby.

  1. It's important to stay in control of the situation and do not shake the baby.
  2. Check the baby clothes because tight clothes can be uncomfortable.
  3. Check the temperature of the room. If the room is hot then turn on the air conditioner.
  4. Check to see if the baby diaper is soiled. If the diaper is wet then remove the diaper. Take the time to properly clean and dry the baby bottom.
  5. Pick the baby up and rub her/his back. Also, it helps to talk soothing to the baby.
  6. Check to see if the baby is hungry. If the baby is hungry then give the baby a bottle.
  7. Check to see if the baby is cold. If the baby is cold then wrap the baby in a soft towel or blanket.
  8. Many babies enjoy being rocked or being in a loving person arms.
  9. Soft, soothing music can be helpful in comforting a baby.
  10. If your baby sucks a pacify then give the baby his /her favorite pacify.
  11. Take the baby outside and let the baby enjoy the breeze.
  12. Put the baby in a cradle and slowly rock the baby.

These tips could stop the baby from crying or the baby could continue to cry. If so, it's time to check for other signs.
  1. Touch the baby stomach and gently press. If the baby twist or resist then the baby could have the colic.
  2. Lightly tug on the baby ear and watch to see if the baby pushes your hands away. If so, this could be an ear infection.
  3. Look at the baby body and check for any rashes.
  4. Check the baby nose for any discharge. If so, this could be Coryza.

These are some of the tips that can help sooth a crying, upset baby. In addition, the baby could be crying because of an illness. If the baby is not able to be sooth then it's best to take the baby to a doctor.
