1970s Themed Party Ideas

Thinking back to the 1970's brings back fond memories for those who were born and raised during that time. And lately there have been quite a few parties thrown in honor of that era. Following are a few ideas for your next 1970's themed party.

Music

It's hard to have a great party when there is no music in the background to set the mood. Music from the 1970s adds the perfect backdrop to a party. There is ten years of music and thousands of artists to choose ranging from The Who and Neil Diamond to James Brown and The Jackson Five, Gladys Knight and the Pips to Tom Jones and Stevie Wonder. The music of the 1970s can keep the party lively and the partygoers grooving.

Costumes

It would not be a 1970's themed party without bellbottom pants and butterfly collar shirts. The 1970s were all about style. And partygoers would enjoy a flashback of their attire from the days of ultra short skirts and thigh high boots. And we cannot forget about the platform shoes that both the men and the women wore during that era. If the partygoers are going to wear costumes of the 1970s, be sure to have a camera ready to point and click.

Party Favors

Who does not like a goody bag? A 1970s themed party would not be a party without an awesome goody bag. It can be filled with miniature 8 track tapes found at a novelty store, an afro pick with a fist on the end, for those who wore afros in the 1970s, or a 45 record of your favorite songs from an old record store. (Records are those large round wax discs that when played on a record player made music. A much older version of a CD.) A personalized goody bag would also be cool with pictures of your friends from that era in a frame, or even their favorite song from that era on a 45 record.

With the above ideas, it's easy to a 1970s themed party while remembering a simpler time, great music and great fun.
