1980's: Great Music and Listening

Shawn Thomas
The 1980's was a great decade for music that is pleasurable and enjoyable to all. The 1980's differs from many of the current songs and artists today. I often find myself listening to 80's music and it is often even played on current radio stations today.

Some of my favorite songs from the past include Blondie and Call Me. Survivor and Eye of the Tiger is also another favorite of mine. The guitar part in the song is really upbeat and inspiring. The song is also a favorite of mine to play in Rock Band 2.

Michael Jackson also came out with some great songs from the 1980s. My favorite is Billy Jean, but Rock with You and Beat it are also very good. Michael Jackson is a great dancer and singer as well.

A great song from 1987 is by Bruce Hornsby and the Range called the Way it Is. This song has been heavily remixed by Tupac in his song Changes. If you listen to this song from Bruce Hornsby and the Range you might mistake it for this great Tupac song. In actuality Tupac just added his own lyrics and rap style to the song.

If you are looking to see some old school rap type music you should check out Milli Vanilli and the song called Girl You Know Its True. It's a good song and much different than most songs from the decade.

Paula Abdul and Janet Jackson also had some very good songs from the 1980s. They are great female vocalists. Paula Abdul is now known for her show American Idol as a judge. In fact, she got her start as a start female artist back in the 1980s. If you have not heard of any of her songs you should listen to Cold Hearted and Straight Up.

Personally, I enjoy the 1980s for its great music and the decade it was. Much of the music today is not as tasteful and thought provoking as the 1980s. Also the 1980s is not filled with nearly as much rap as the music today. For example, Guns N' Roses and the song Sweet Child O' Mine came out in 1985. It really is an excellent song and a favorite among those who play Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Take on me by A-Ha is also another great upbeat and uplifting song from the 1980's that embodies the whole decade.
