Of course when you first get your license you like to drive all of your friends around. There is not much room in the back seat. You could probably fit two people in the back. The biggest hassle was that it was a two door. Every time I wanted to let someone out of the car I had to get out myself. I never did any heavy traveling so the truck space worked out for me. If you are going to travel for a weekend then you should be ok. For longer trips I would not recommend it. The 19989 Honda Civic Hatchback is very tiny so it is easy to drive however it is very noisy especially on the highway. You also hear and feel every single bump on the road since you are so low to the ground. Whenever you are on the highway you might want to stay away from the bigger trucks because as they pass you the wind makes you feel like it will pick you up and fly you off the road.
I now drive a much larger car and it has four doors, which is much better. A lot of the new models are larger and have more room for people and stuff. Over the years Honda has made the Honda Civic Hatchbacks much quieter for the road.
If you are a young kid getting your first knock around car. This is not a bad car to start off with. If you are planning on traveling or want to have room to put your things or passengers, the 1998 Honda Civic Hatchback is not the car for you.
