2 Great Putting Tips to Improve Your Golf Game

Rocky Hills
There isn't a faster and more reliable way to improve your golf score than to improve your putting. The most important thing to remember is that putting is an individual approach. Even though there are basics you should follow, in the end it comes down to what is best for you. However, with that being said, here are some basics you should follow.

Look at your score almost 50% of it is your putting score so you need to lower that percentage and you can do it reliably in only one way, practice. You cannot be a weekend golfer and expect that you will continue to grow in your ability to golf. But you do not have to be on the golf course to practice.

Let's begin with the something you have seen on TV and the movies, an employee of a business walks into the boss' office. There's the boss standing in front of his desk with a putter in hand. He then takes a swing and the golf ball rolls into a cup. Guess what that isn't some silly movie gag that is a great way to practice.

Putting the ball isn't some strange bizarre method that only the pros know. It is about learning to control the ball. That means hitting the ball smoothly and directly. If you have control you have finesse.

Let's talk about hitting the ball smoothly. You know how to do it but do you do it? To have a good putt you must not putt with your hands but with your shoulders. If you move your wrists you will not have a smooth controlled putt.

The other part of your putt is to hit the ball directly. To hit the ball directly means to hit the ball squarely and that means hitting the ball dead on even with the putter. The putter face is flat for a reason. It is to hit the ball head on and give you a controlled putt.

There are several ways to practice hitting the ball squarely. The easiest way is to line up two rulers on either side of your putting stroke path and to hit the ball while staying in the lines. A better way is to use golf balls and line them up along the stroke path of you putter. That way if you are off the balls will scatter and it will be an immediate response to a bad putt.

Keeping all this in mind, if you want to improve your putting you must practice. It is true that practice makes perfect.
