One of these tennis courts is all the way in Copperton. In the public park there used to be 4 Tennis courts. Recently, they removed 2 to put in a skate park. I think that is just a tragedy, but it wasn't all bad news. The city resurfaced the remaining 2 courts and modernized them. So it is very fun to play there again.
The main reason that I like it so much at these courts is the view. You can see the entire Salt Lake Valley splayed out to the north of you, and not only that but you can also catch glimpses of the Kennecot Copper Mine trucks every once in a while.
I also discovered another great reason to play on these courts when I played for the High School team. The nearby playground has this pyramid structure. Every so often people will drive by and see me running up and down it. That is how I like to warm up for a match. It strengthens the calf muscles which are essential for the game. So I have always played at Copperton, and will continue to do so because it is a great place to condition myself.
Another great tennis court is closer to home. In fact it is the closest court I could find to my house. There is just one court, and it isn't really well kept. But it is a great place to take a buddy and go playing. This court is in the Teton Estates Park. It is small and cozy. And best of all hardly anybody knows about it. It was my little secret for the longest time, and I feel like I am ripping myself off by writing about it. I go there all the time.
Many people think that they have to spend money to play on a truly fantastic court, but in my experience you can find many great courts in your own neighborhood. You just have to drive around and then try them out. This is how I found these great places to play, and there are plenty others around here that I know about and still have to try. The best places to play are always the ones that nobody else knows about, because they don't take the time to look. It is worth exploring, your town or neighborhood for great locations as well.
